Okay, since I'm on laundry today, a little story.

When hubs and I first got married, we were very much enjoying our little Honeymoon Bubble, and we were being lazy as Hell. We didn't do many chores, but the laundry we really let go. We weren't wearing many clothes at home anyway, so why bother. Anyhow, after weeks we finally reached the swimming suit bottoms situation, and decided it was time. It was loads and loads of laundry that needed done, so I had my husband back the trunk of the car up to a window of the house, then he popped the trunk, and I started tossing laundry out of the window into the trunk. We went to the bank, got about $30 bucks in quarters, and found the emptiest laundry mat we could, and did it all in one fell swoop. We folded it all and loaded it back into the car using those wheeled laundry carts. We never let it get that bad again, and decided it was time to be adults, and do regular chores, but it still makes me laugh imagining what the neighbors and the laundry attendant thought.

I can't figure out if mastodon is a high context culture or not. People seem to be expected to give long introductions and do a lot of identity/positionality disclosure, but also an enormous reply guy culture which is defined by low context drive-by. Conversational turn-taking is extremely low compared to other platforms ime, but depth-seeking is high. What an interesting mix.

*obviously, these experiences are all situated within my own network effects, and I'm not well networked here.

@grimalkina to me the most interesting thing about Mastodon is that anyone's experience here really is whatever they make it out to be.

Since there is no algorithm whatsoever, it's 100% up to each user to curate a space they enjoy and find valuable.

It's worked out brilliantly for me. But I understand why others might have a tougher time adapting to it, especially given the most recent social landscapes that are out there.

@grimalkina sure, valid. It can be tough if you're looking for something really specific bc I think we're still hovering at around 1mm active users over here. The user pool is going to be limited no matter what anyone is searching for, absolutely true.

I'm curious how Threads and Bluesky federating will change that but there's also a lot of resistance to those integrations from this side so.... who knows?

Also, hope you didn't think I was singling you out or anything - wasn't my intention.

I don't know how any vinyl lover could hate on Taylor Swift. Not only has she fully embraced the art form, she has taken it to soaring new heights and also introduced a whole new generation of fans into record collecting.

  • Disney+, Hulu, Max mash up their original content with content from ABC, Fox, TNT, TBS, CNN, Discovery Channel, Food Network, & more

  • ESPN, Fox Sports, Discovery are combining forces for a sports channel bundle

So we went from cable bundles, to cord cutting, to paying for internet and more bundles.

This does not feel like a win for consumers. More like a shuffling of the deck.

A new law has come into effect in Florida stating that if you create or sell lab-grown meat, you might face a second-degree misdemeanor charge, which is punishable by up to 60 days in jail or a $500 fine. Several other states including Alabama, Tennessee and Arizona are attempting to follow suit.
