With much deliberation, I have decided that the theme for tomorrow's edition of is...

Summer

The days are longer, the sun is shining, the flowers have bloomed, the bees are buzzin', so fire your summer related picks at me.

"Another Sunny Day" by Belle and Sebastian? Or anything by Another Sunny Day for that matter, perhaps "Anorak City"?

I’m so glad public libraries already exist. Could you I magine trying to sell the idea of libraries to politicians in 2024?

“You want to build a large public complex on prime real estate that gives away free books & education & community events—paid for by our tax dollars? Are you crazy??”

Shivviness,

@QasimRashid
Neoliberals are zealously trying to erode public amenities such as libraries. They want the public downtrodden, ignorant and generally unaware of their rights, so they can be better exploited

News outlets are reporting that Trump recently summoned fossil fuel executives to his golf resort and promised to roll back environmental regulations in his second term in exchange for campaign cash.
The US is already trashing the environment, let alone with dismantling what limited protections there are.
It's insane the choice is between an accomplice to a genocide and a Captain Planet villain. What a terrible position for America and the broader world to be in

I've heard people remark that Labour just imported a scandal with Elphrike. That they shot themselves in the foot for no apparent electoral gain. But I'm not so sure. This is Labour saying to the electorate who they are. And, as you say, all remaining Corbynites will be expelled and the mask concealing who they really are is slowly removed

I was just reminded of around twenty years ago when this guy who I knew on LiveJournal took extreme creative liberty and used the head from my LiveJournal profile pic and Photoshopped an image of me and sent it to me as a "gift" and I was just like "uhhhhhhhhhh...thank you?"

Why the Tetris theme though? And, yes, I see it even extends to a Nintendo tattoo.
I imagine the many girls' reaction to this would be, "this is very creepy and weird, but at least it's not a picture of his genitals". And it's very sad that even today that should still hold true for most women on the internet

NYPD arrests credentialed press photograther Josh Pacheco, May 8, 2024.
There's something of the persecution of Christ to this image, I feel.
I personally find it terrifying how hard and decisively authority has put down the hammer with these protests, which incidentally, relatively speaking, were very polite and restrained. One dares not think what they will resort to when rioting inevitably begins with climate collapse

Nothing else matters.

Almost 80% of IPCC climate scientists believe we're heading for 2.5ºC of warming this century; 50% say 3ºC.

These are objectively disastrous numbers.

Over 70% say that lack of political will is to blame; 60% also blame vested corporate interests.

I'd add the demagogues, populists, & their cronies, weaponising denialism for their own short-term selfish gains.

History will judge our generation very harshly.

I’m finally seeing a physiotherapist about my dodgy knee this morning, 18 months after I first hurt it, and about a month after it really stopped giving me gyp.

So, yay?

I've likewise had a sore knee for approaching a year. It was so painful it was keeping me awake in bed last night. I am actually able to walk around on it and even exercise, though exercising exacerbates the pain, hence I am not using my rowing machine today.
Hope your physio appointment goes well

That's an effective, powerful analogy, and highlights the fact we're enjoying a convenient, pleasant "modern" lifestyle today at expense of future generations' wellbeing, essentially robbing from the future. It is the epitome of selfishness vis-a-vis posterity
