have been seeing the “people need to get engage in ” argument quite a lot recently, and it’s made me reflect.

For me, hope doesn’t actually come into it. I don’t care whether we have “hope” or not. For me it’s anger, fear, responsibility, guilt, and perhaos also (just to add one positive one) a growing sense of personal empowerment that drive me to try everything i can. These are all very strongly motivating emotions too

@Adam_Cadmon1 @BlackAzizAnansi not sure I'm radical but. A tipping point for me was seeing that fascism wasn't just about German Nazis, that we'd had sympathizers here all along and were experiencing fascism creep.

Since then it turned into a flood tide.

Confession: I have been on that Other Site for the last few hours talking about Tucker Carlson and Don Lemon because ... well, this is a good example of why I do miss search here. I want to see what people are saying; I want to know the latest reporting; and, yes, I want to quote-tweet NYTimes Pitchbot. Now it's OK if the community of Mastodon decides it doesn't want to be a key place for news but I'd regret that. And I'm not speaking so much as a journalist but as news user.
