Trad Wife memes are always like a traditionally attractive skinny blonde woman in a white dress, in a field of flowers, holding hands with their immaculate children. The text always says something like, Why are you working a job, instead of doing your true calling? This is Godly Motherhood!

This how I know these are made by people who have never been around children, or possibly even women, and also never had to worry about money.

Z_Zed_Zed,

@RickiTarr Never pictures of disheveled mom cleaning up vomit at 3:00 a.m?

The mental gymnastics skills of folks attempting to justify Mozilla paying their CEO $7 million while asking for donations.

#mozilla

Z_Zed_Zed,

@aral She makes 3.5% of the Google CEO. Opera’s CEO is worth a couple of billion dollars. I could go on (and on and on and on…). It doesn’t take much more than five minutes on the search engine of your choice to realize that she is significantly underpaid compared to people in similar positions.

Z_Zed_Zed,

@prefec2 @aral “For a non profit organisation her income should not be much above that of people developing at Mozilla.”

So non-profit workers’ salaries shouldn’t be competitive with for-profits?
This is a flawed premise in my opinion.

I pre-ordered “System Collapse” months ago. It finally arrived today.
Was pleasantly surprised by the ‘autographed copy’ sticker. Even more pleasantly surprised that @marthawells has a worse signature than me.

Just a random thought in the wind ...

If I publish a book, you don't need my permission to read it, to learn from it and gain knowledge, and ultimately, to gain financial benefit from the professional application of that knowledge.

So if AI uses my book for training data, is that really any different?

Z_Zed_Zed,

@tealeg @siblingpastry How does plagiarism differ from fair use?

I do it for the sticker.

Wow. Rep Ro Khanna to intro major bill to increase congressional & judicial accountability:
•12 year Congress term limit
•18 year SCOTUS term limit
•Judicial code of ethics
•Ban Congress from trading stocks
•Ban Corporate & PAC donations

Count me in!

Z_Zed_Zed,

@QasimRashid Term limits are the wrong answer to the wrong question. Everywhere they are in place has seen an increase in power and access for the wealthy. It is nothing but lazy accountability.

Z_Zed_Zed,

@TDCN @Showroom7561 I think you mean blood/alcohol level of .2% - at 2% you would be long dead. And .2% is not driving drunk, that’s driving practically passed out. To be that drunk a 50kg dude would need to have 7 drinks in an hour. That person needs detox, not a car.

Moralizing Nostalgia Leads to Bad History – and Helps the Anti-Democratic Right

David Brooks’ “How America Got Mean” offers an ahistorical tale that obscures rather than illuminates – and provides fertile ground for a politics of reaction.

A thread, based on my new piece: https://thomaszimmer.substack.com/p/moralizing-nostalgia-leads-to-bad

Z_Zed_Zed,

@tzimmer_history tl;dr - David Brooks is a fool.

Which, you know, has been verified by his writings since, like, forever.

Dear Americans

Not a single news outlet aired President Biden's event at the White House just now where he announced over $40 BILLION in investments to expand broadband across America. Thank you, President Biden!

When will President Biden get the coverage & credit he deserves? This is why our media fails all of us.

I posted this double rainbow on my FB photography page and wrote "What a fantastic rainbow for Pride Month. 🌈."

That triggered a loss of followers and a bunch of comments about how the rainbow can only mean one religious thing. A preacher's comment was the worst.

It hard to come up with words about the people that reacted that way.

Two Michigan students are suing their school district for not being allowed to wear sweatshirts to class with slogan "Let's Go Brandon"

Should these maga-larvae get to wear a terrorist slogan to class? Is this really under “protected speech?”

Lemme know your thoughts…

Z_Zed_Zed,

@flexghost @max_headroom Students do not leave their constitutional rights at the schoolhouse door. Schools have some limited parental authority (so banning clothing with beer ads is ok), but the school could only ban this item if they can state the intent was to disrupt school. I predict the district loses, and their lawyers should be fired for not advising school leadership better.

Sorry, but you can't convince me that the test of a reusable rocket system is supposed to involve destroying the launch site—which was reusable on every prior generation of space flight technology—and launching debris thousands of feet away.

is not a serious company, it's a clown show, and it should not have a single dollar in government funding, much less billions.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ViAb3vYIh_8

Z_Zed_Zed,

@michaelgemar @theogrin @maxkennerly No. they just externalize costs so they seem cheaper.

Z_Zed_Zed,

@michaelgemar @theogrin @maxkennerly As mentioned in the article, SpaceX didn’t pay to do many basic safety features. That failure results in costs that others now have to pay. The actual cost to the taxpayer is actually higher, but hidden. Lots of tech based “innovations” are just this. Uber is “cheaper” because they get others to pay costs the traditional taxi companies were paying. TL;DR version - they try to privatize profits while socializing risk.
