Interesting observation about social media “fun”:

Some people think is “fun”. However, I find it anxiety-inducing and stressful. I’m not the only one who thinks so. A few autistic people say the same thing.

seems “fun” to me because I can make it be what I need it to be. For example, it’s nice that I can create antennas devoted to my special interests.

This is dramatic!

https://misskey.io is 4 users away from overtaking https://mastodon.online as the 6th largest server on the Fediverse!

At least according to FediDB:

It just happened!

https://misskey.io overtook https://mastodon.online!

As tabulated by FediDB, it is now the 5th largest Fediverse server!

This is quite symbolic because, for the first time, 's flagship server now has more users than one of 's flagship servers!

People keep bringing up the very tired “Linux on the desktop” meme to dismiss the Fediverse.

But a meme is just a meme.

In the real world, Linux dominates.

Your phone? Probably Linux. Your car’s infotainment system? Linux. Your router? Linux.

Chromebook? Linux.

Windows has a Linux Subsystem too.

Linux has won.

The “Linux on the desktop” naysayers don’t even realize it.

The Fediverse should be so lucky.

How did I do that?

By typing the following line into a post:

Just found out that @Are0h is building a Fediverse project based on *key!

I suspect he’ll be adding critical community safety features!

I’m extremely excited about this!

Hey @gruber, how will be tangibly different from Mastodon?

Because with what Bluesky devs are telling me, defederation with AT protocol should be possible.

It would be incredible on Bluesky’s part if a server couldn’t defederate.

The best way to explain is to imagine what would happen if (pre-Elon) fell in love with and they had a baby.

That baby would be Calckey.

Twitter + WordPress = Calckey

Let me explain... 🧵

REMINDER: If you see abuse, don’t boost it. Report it instead.

Boosting creates more reach for the initial abuse, which makes it all the more worse.

Also, please give moderators a chance to respond to reports. During times you’re active on the Fediverse, some of us are literally sleeping 😴

What will be the tangible difference between the BGS that is making for AT protocol and a really well-connected relay operated with ?

The more I think about it, the more I don’t know.

Well, just confirmed that bans on @fediversenews work as they should.

A troll just tried to post here.

Their troll post doesn't display on @fediversenews, nor is their post boosted by the Group.

Even better, they're not notified when they are blocked 😉

Until comment controls come to Friendica, moderation here will mostly have to be reactive.

I will continue using venera.social for groups until a better solution comes along.

I need you all to do me a favour and follow these steps:

  1. Visit this post: https://mastodon.social/@atomicpoet/110328640192551572

  2. Click the link shown I've shown in the red box (see screenshot)

  3. Tell me if the link goes to mastodon.social or venera.social

I want everyone to report what you see.

Just a reminder that @fediversenews is not a “headless boost bot”.

It’s a Fediverse group hosted on a Friendica server, specifically venera.social.

If you’re unaware of what this group actually looks like, please visit this URL:

https://venera.social/profile/fediversenews

Please don’t use this as a boosting service for Mastodon or you’ll be banned.

How the hell have *key apps been so under the radar for 9 years?!

(At least here in the West.)

atomicpoet, to fediversenews

I'm test driving for public groups.

Like , /kbin can ban trolls from participating in groups.

Unlike Friendica, you can remove posts local to where the group is hosted.

Unfortunately, the offending comments still appears in user timelines because other Fediverse servers do not delete after comments are removed locally.

Another alternative could be which supports groups through "Channels". However these do NOT federate.

It’s okay to stick with Mastodon.

is just a different way to be on the Fediverse.

Ultimately, Mastodon and Calckey can still talk to each other through .

Think of all the social media software that doesn’t allow conversation outside its walled garden!

engineer Jake Gold confirmed to me that a PDS can opt out of BGS indexing.

Which also tells me that AT protocol (and Bluesky) will allow defederation.

So there you have it, @gruber.

If you use AT protocol, you will be able to defederate from other servers for both petulant and non-petulant reasons.

@fediversenews

atomicpoet, to random
@atomicpoet@mastodon.social avatar

Keep in mind why I opted for using Fediverse groups instead of hashtags: anyone can use a hashtag and therefore hijack it.

There’s no way to block someone from using a hashtag. However, trolls can be blocked from using a group.

Just heard a rumour that https://yarn.social is slowly rolling out support for .

https://yarn.social is a decentralised and self-hosted social media platform based on the Twtxt format that has a privacy-first focus.

To find out what it looks like, here's an example of a yarn server:

It's interesting to watch how other decentralized social networks adopt .
