    Disney, Warner Bros and others are slowly realizing that licensing shows to Netflix makes them money while keeping the shows exclusive to their unprofitable streaming services costs them money.

    This will further devalue their services since they will have fewer exclusives as people can get those shows on Netflix.

    The inevitable shutdown of a plethora of streaming is happening faster than I expected. I honestly thought this step wouldn’t happen for another year or two.

    @carnage4life An obvious model to follow here would be the old syndication model. First run the show on your service and then license it out. Disney could possibly survive doing this. Alternatively, they don't really need to license anything out. Paramount is probably repeating the UPN mistake by having their own service in the first place.

    It's funny how Wheel of Time this all is. We've done all this before.

    On the one hand, reduced fat milk is sugar water and banning whole milk was merely a result of sugar industry lobby bullshit fearmongering about fat consumption.

    On the other hand, drinking whole milk is not going to result in healthier kids and we certainly don't need to expand the dairy industry when it's among the leading drivers of the climate crisis.

    The culture war is stupid.

    I don't know anything about horoscopes, but for fun I looked up whether I'm "compatible" with someone I like and apparently we're one of the worst possible combinations which was devastating lol so I went on another site that says we're soul mates and now I think I'm understanding how this works

    @ElleGray Years ago, in the before times, I remember reading the horoscopes in the Washington Post and the Richmond Times-Dispatch on the same day and they were identical except for the fact they were for different signs depending which paper I was reading.

    @kangaroo5383 I sit like a shrimp goblin at my desk but for some reason the thing that does the most to prevent back pain is just making sure I walk at least 30 minutes a day. Whenever I break that habit, the lower back protests pretty much immediately.

    The silliest thing about all the lies about @Are0h , is that they distract from important conversations about how to improve blocklists.

    Someone will say some important criticism about blocklists, but then it'll be drowned out by 5 days of someone else saying "I heard Ro kicks puppies! But only white puppies! He's the real racist!" 🤡

    This is like the 5th round of debunking.

    At this point if you choose to believe the lies, it says more about you than it says about how convincing the lies are.

    🤔I have friends that absolutely hate Venture Capital. Hate the very concept. They believe that VC ruins everything, and that the setup is evil, and prioritizes hyper growth above everything. Some of these friends will drive over to my house just to sit me down and yell at me in unhinged rants about how evil VC is, scaring my kids.

    If I think of the most unhinged, hyperbolic, doom and gloom rants about VC that I've ever heard? None of them paint VCs in worse light than Marc's manifesto.

    @mekkaokereke It may be a cliché at this point, but I think it's useful to distinguish between Venture Capital, which is really nothing more than investing in start-up businesses with the expectation of a profitable return, a useful and arguably necessary service, and Vulture Capital, which is the side that does ruin businesses all in the name of maximizing profits for the already wealthy.

    The Israeli Government and Hamas are not the Israeli and Palestinian people who have and will continue to suffer from all this.

    I don't claim to have an answer, but I am certain it will not involve choosing a side the way we do with every issue these days. Remember the people suffering are just people. They want the same things anyone wants. This act was an atrocity but it wasn't the first and if we don't change the way we talk about these things it won't be the last.

    Moving from to is the same playbook that results in the new generation fighting the same battles as the previous generation without learning anything from the previous struggle.     Really wish there were QTs here. Yes, bad actors sometimes use them to dunk, but more often they are a way to expand on a topic without derailing the original thread. Threads and Bsky have done something clever: allowing QTs, but you can't see them unless you happen to follow the QT-er. So the reach of a dunk-post is dramatically reduced.

    @seachanger I have watched a friend's journey through it and I believe it seems like it's what a lot of ex-Twitter people who would be turned off by BlueSky want Mastodon to be. It's a Fediverse social media platform that has quote tweets and shitposting essentially. You can seamlessly integrate to here such that the only reason I know my friend posts from there to here is he says he does.
