Well, the library situation kinda came to a head today when they closed the study space for the entire morning so that old people could drink coffee among the books.

When I complained, the Area Manager said I was 'aggressive' and said there was no complaints procedure.

Turns out there is, and so I've sent a letter. Whether I get a reply before the heat death of the universe is unlikely. Even more unlikely is that they do anything about it.

I had a system that relied on the Gmail API (and the gmailr package in R) to automatically send out emails. It was working for years, but now has suddenly utterly broken, and I can't figure out what the problem is, lost in a maze of OAuth and tokens, and credential caches, and trying get a script on a remote system that doesn't have a browser installed to authenticate.

This has utterly shattered me. I just need to send an email, automatically, once every few days. I don't care what address it appears to come from, or what domain. It has about 3 lines of text in it. It just has to arrive.

What is the absolutely stupidly easiest dumbest way to do this, or is email just irredeemably broken and dead now?

For anyone still at - I have no idea how much longer they'll be there but there are quite a few rapid tests and KN95s in a box in the PyCon office (306/307) if you need them before you head out. There are also a bunch of lost and found items including a keyboard and multiple chargers. (And my water bottle, yay!)

Left from about 33 hrs ago. Had a scratchy throat this morning w/ a negative test and just now have a positive test.

I went out with various groups, unmasked, throughout the weekend. This was a risk I was willing to take. Still, I'm glad I was wearing a mask in the convention center around folks who did not choose to take that same risk.

I'm gonna go rest now.

As I get ramped up on ActivityPub stuff, I'm starting a very rough notes log with some thoughts — unfiltered chaff that will be helpful to some combination of "other people" and "future me". Here is that notes log!

We've still got a few Lost and Found items in the staff room 306/307! If an item belongs to you, please come collect it by 3pm today or 2:30pm tomorrow.

After that, we will turn the items over to the convention center who will hold them for 30 days before donating them to charity.

Dear folks on my timeline who have disabilities and teach daily living skills. During summer school, I would like to work on tasks such as spreading things evenly, mixing items together to form a new thing, such as making tuna or egg salad. I also want to work on cutting things evenly and safely. We do not have any method to cook things so I am looking for suggestions For snacks that could help with teaching these concepts. It would be great if they were not expensive as we are buying the snacks

Is there anyone at with a background in seismology?

I'm wondering if it's possible to recognize landslides from seismic data. If so, it would help identify exactly when some landslides in our community happened.

Reminder: I will be hosting an open space for a round table discussion about how you interact with SQL (ORMs? SQLAlchemy Core? SQLGlot? Raw SQL? How do you organize your queries?) in room 315 at 10AM (25 minutes from this toot), or however long it takes to get from the plenary room to the open space area. Tell your friends, boost for reach, since the relevance is time sensitive.

Why do I wear my mask at ? TL;DR… kindness 💖

Why does mask == kindness? We have beloved folx in our community that have very serious reasons to not get sick. Some of us have immune disorders. Some of us have respiratory disease. Some of us have people @ home that we need to protect & if we get sick it means stress & isolation when we return.

It's not just COVID. Our faces are disease cannons and most of those diseases are equally sucky.

So join me in kindness and keep that mask on! 😷✨

Can anyone recommend a kid-friendly painting app for iPad? Something like Kid Pix? Kindergarten/elementary age. No ads, no in-app purchases, no commercial characters (ideally).

I hunted for this a couple years ago and came up empty handed.

Hello lovely people.

I'm not able to be there this year 😭 but I've got a question that I'm certain someone there knows something about.

Do you know any ML/AI researchers working on or interested in better, assistive, generative SVG output?

Maybe something to improve the quality of something like 1 potrace or work with Vector artists to produce a more "human" output of SVG objects as a resource 2.
