If Apple tinted their window shadows to match the wallpaper, I think that idea of tinting windows to match the wallpaper would look a lot nicer.

It doesn't look great to see a black shadow on a light teal background. (second pic is an example)

If you use content warnings for posts, first: thank you! A lot of folks appreciate it whether it’s about potential triggers or just specific interests.

I’ve also found that it’s more helpful if you spell out the warning rather than using shorthand. This is especially true for franchises: not everyone will read an sw warning as a Star Wars spoiler, or suf as Steven Universe Future, for example. It’s also helpful for common ones like “eye contact” or “mental health” instead of ec or mh.

My TV remote operates over wifi, but my old ass still feels I need to point it directly at the box like a phaser.

With premiering exactly 2 months from today, I HIGHLY recommend watching first.

From what I gather from the trailers, it seems as though the new series is basically Rebels part 2.

It's a great show that, admittedly, took me a while to get into.

Can't wait to see Chopper again!

There's a pretty significant crossover between the "Fuck Your Feelings" folks and the "Don't Teach History That Makes Us Uncomfortable" folks.

hey that tabs vs spaces meme that's going around is funny but did y'all know that there's a very solid reason to prefer tabs:

It allows for more customization by individual devs (someone with poor vision can turn their tab width up to 8, someone working in code with many indents can turn it down to 2) without having to change the meaning of a tab: one indentation.

I'm going to try something new and share one of my favourite pieces of Free and open source (FOSS) software each Friday (). I'll start with Syncthing (https://syncthing.net/). I've been using Syncthing for years now to share folders securely between all my devices, enabling all sorts of use cases:

  • a decentralised Dropbox
  • backing up photos on my phone
  • getting everything from all sorts of places back to my NAS; and
  • keeping a laptop in sync with my desktop.
    Give it a try!

Many Colorado districts built up a supply of Chromebooks as COVID closed schools. Now, some devices are nearing their end. https://coloradosun.com/2023/05/26/colorado-schools-chromebooks-churn-outdated/?utm_content=bufferab1ea&utm_medium=social&utm_source=Mastodon&utm_campaign=buffer

Introducing Womprat, the font you’re looking for.

louie,

I’m gonna switch gears a little and show how easy it can be to make a logo with this font. With various programmed OpenType features, alternate characters, icons and symbols, you can have something really nice really fast.

Right now I have a private album with photos of our kids on a paid cloud photo service shared with a bunch of extended family and friends via email addresses and private links.

I kind of wonder if a private, followers-only Mastodon account (on our existing blaede.family instance) would make sense, instead? It would mean people would need to sign up for Mastodon or another Fediverse account to request to follow it, but it seems like a nice use case for privately sharing. 🤔

Okay, if I know you—like personally or at least over a long period of time on the Internet and you think I’d totally send you photos of my family—feel free to follow-request @lucy and @nora! I’m running them as an experiment and plan to just share candid photos so people can keep up with what we’re up to. Protip: if I can’t figure out who you are or how I know you from your profile, it won’t be accepted. 🤷

I think it’s important to repeat: you don't "have something to hide" when you put blinds on your windows or close the door when you're on the can or wear clothes.

Privacy isn't about having something to hide. It's not about keeping secrets. It's about you being the person who chooses what you reveal about yourself, and when, and to who, and the other word we have for that is "dignity". Your inherent dignity, as a human being.

Your privacy is the agency you have over your dignity.

So here's one of the things I'm super interested in that's coming out of our recent pilot research with software teams: there's a big difference between "things that are hard, but we're good at solving them" and "things that are hard, in a way that absolutely kills our motivation."
