Writer and broadcaster of Signal Thirteen Radio. Retired innocent bystander. Cursing is at times a form of art.

I love music, radio and connections. In real life a son, brother, pupper dad and caregiver, writer of oddities, Jockey of Discs.

Bigotry and hatred against LGTBQ2S+ people, and others, will cause me to identify as a massive problem.

As someone who isn't American I would like to point out that the US's problems isn't seen as a sudden fall from grace, but a deliberate series of choices that US citizens have made since at least the 1980s and probably since the Civil War.

Pointing that out is not being an enemy of democracy.

America isn't a functioning democracy for Americans who aren't white middle class cis-het men is not treason, it's trying to help you see how bad things are and hoping you can save the US from itself.

@WhiteCatTamer @MisuseCase @StillIRise1963 @RamenCatholic Amen. The really whacked part is that the moral cowards who, at the UN, refused to condemn what the US is doing right now abstained during the vote.

That's exactly what staying home or voting for an unelectable third candidate is doing.

They are abstaining because they refuse to make the hard choice between some of what you want and complete disaster.

That they refuse to recognize this as amoral is maddening.

@paninid I live in British Columbia, and used to live not that far from the Sikh temple where it looks like Indian agents took out one of the temple leadership on the direction of Modi's government, who then got angry at Trudeau for calling him out in Parliament.

He's an extremely scary dude - he's everything Trump wants to be with the addition that he is a very smart guy, where Trump just has a cunning you see in weasels and rats.

That other 'guy' owns a masive part of a car company while I am planning never to own a car in my life!

That other guy owns billions upon billions and needs to own even more. I'm putting all back into the network so I will never ever reach a billion 💪

If you don’t have the gun companies trying to put a gun in everyone’s hands, people can just ask another person to move out of their driveway.

Teen pizza delivery driver shot at multiple times after parking in the wrong driveway:

chriswho,

@GreenFire @maddad @TonyStark So you're comparing US Gun Deaths to active war zones ("insurgency", "coup", "police action", "counter insurgency", "gang crack down", "undeclared hostilities", "civil unrest"

That's one way to flatten the curve I guess.

In the US there is still this need to be somehow superior, or at least not as bad, particularly in relation to predominantly black and brown countries.

I know that might not be intended, but that's how it's looking.

chriswho,
@chriswho@mstdn.social avatar

@TonyStark @GreenFire @maddad

I agree with the guns part of things, however it needs to be said that - particularly the two countries that are mentioned are in such dire straights because of deliberate choices that the US government has made over the years.

Haiti is literally dying the death of a thousand cuts because of debts held, unforgiven, by the west. Many of the issues in Africa come from Resource Extraction by the west.

Many of the problems are ones the US has exported.

Once again we are reminded of the National Day of Prayer by a politician.

If prayer is your thing, and it's mine to an extent, then it's an internal thing.

Go to a place that's quiet or filled with fellow pray-ers and contemplate the majesty and morals of the human and the divine.

However, if you hold public office, I don't want to hear about it. The fact that someone with the power to end the world might believe that's a good thing (or at least planned for) terrifies me.

Fediverse: Trump did something- 1 billion posts and boosts.

Account on a supposedly well-moderated instance: “Jews only get Germany, maybe half.” (Maybe know what happened there and not where they’re all from anyway, dumbfuck.) - total dead silence here.

It's strange to me when I see people get upset about people doing good deeds, and posting it online.

"They're just doing it for attention!"

Yeah, so what? I'd much rather see people doing nice things for attention, than the people who do mean pranks or wasting food. A good deed is still good, even if it's done for the wrong reasons.

@fulanigirl Thank you so much for writing this. We desperately, desperately need to hear it.

Now my fellow old white folks need to actually listen to this truth.

If we just act together, work together for actual equity and equality, and are conscious in this way we could quite literally change the world. Even more importantly, we would be doing the right thing, which should alone be enough to convince us. 🙏

chriswho,

@QueenieBeanie @Gargron It's not that. It's bringing Twitter and AI into the room.

Folks need to stop with the strawman of how folks on Mastodon don't want Eugen to ever get paid.

Forget it. Give the guy a $200k payday - he deserves it.

Twitter and AI have hurt a lot of people who ended up coming to the fediverse. They legitimately wonder if they made the right choice.

Again for people (racists), complaining about falling birth rates:

The birth rate for women over 40 is not falling. The birth rate for women over 30 is not falling.

What's happening, is girls 15 to 17 are having fewer babies. Kids are having fewer kids.

Also, this is an interesting way of saying that "Teen pregnancy is down, due to sex education and contraception."

In 1991 25% of 15 year olds gave birth before they turned 21. That's bad. Now it's 6%. That's better.

chriswho,
@chriswho@mstdn.social avatar

@chasseur @mekkaokereke Modern American history just seems to be replete with folks only to happy to work and vote against their own interests.

I'm Canadian, and just taking into account the Syrian refugees by themselves, we've seen many not only do well but start business that then go on and employ dozens of Canadians or more.

Immigration is a win/win/win, but one has to actually want one's country to succeed no matter who's in government and that doesn't work for Conservatives.

chriswho,
@chriswho@mstdn.social avatar

@mekkaokereke @chasseur Exactly. Immigration works for everyone. Immigrants hire others, pay taxes and generally enrich the culture. I've always been more of a fan of the cultural mosaic, where everyone brings their own unique style and identity that enriches the whole, as opposed to the melting pot where everyone becomes the same and folks lose a cultural identity.

chriswho,

@Adam_Cadmon1 And a culture change. Any cop that vibes like they joined so they might get a chance at some gunplay needs to be identified and canned. No more being hired two counties over. You get fired from a police dept you're fired from all of them.

It's extremely strange to me, as someone who was born during the Vietnam war, that once again we've got the military (militarized police) starting to encircle college and university campuses because students haven't been fully indoctrinated yet and think it's a bad idea to wipe a country off the map with high explosives.
