@BeAware I understand that but that doesn’t mean that have to be communities. I’m just weary of situations that resemble Big Social but because people can use a different instance and or platform (which is a huge difference) people act as if the behaviour and most of the dynamics aren’t similar
To me integrity is huge and I view talk as cheap. If you are going out of your way to loudly talk about #Threads and how horrible #Meta is then go all of the way. Scolding people and pushing people to block Threads is cheap if you’re not willing to block those federating with Threads. I see people attempting to harass Eugen for his instances federating with Threads and tell him he aligning himself with a company guilty of genocide. Why not block him & others for being guilty by association? Many of the loud ones won’t because they can’t get over the slight discomfort & inconvenience of cutting off large parts of the networks. Personally, I find it hard to respect such opinions. When people protest it’s for change and they don’t back out due to discomfort and inconveniences. To be clear, my focus isn’t on those simply making the choice to defederate or not, it’s those being very forceful and vocal on either side of the fence. #Mastodon#Fediverse#OpenSocialWeb
@damon If there's one thing this "defederate Threads" debacle has taught us it is that virtue signaling and posing are way more common here than I would have expected two years ago.

Making many of you aware as I’m disgusted and sick of the disinformation and misinformation on fedi. Many of you are liars and don’t mind being liars. If I see you spreading disinformation even upon being corrected I am #Fediblock will add to blocklists and add receipts. People often say how #fediverse is better but there’s a lot of lacking, time to prove it’s better. All I see is people that behave like #maga but on the opposite end of the political spectrum
I see people making judgments about those that still remain on #BigSocial those that use “ #AI “ , those that work for #governments those that don’t use #foss etc whatever purity tests you lot have. I don’t respect you people. You’re the same people that have nasty racist, sexist, homophobic family, friends and colleagues that you call “good people” some of you are also these kinds of people yourselves with. The majority of the people you are critical of happen to be marginalised folk. People that don’t have the means, resources, support, time etc to do these things thus “convenience” is a big part of how they survive.
I’ve seen many of you daily critical of the use of #GenerativeAI you know who’s taking advantage of the free versions and #OpenSource models? Marginalised folk, people who have learning disabilities, don’t know English or other global languages and people that lack the based educational support that are attempting to bridge gaps. Many sit on your high horse thinking your ethical and moral people but you’re not! You’re selfish, inconsiderate and privileged.
Lastly, I’m tired of you defensive #foss#OpenSource folk insulting people’s intelligence and lives because you use and make products/services that aren’t intuitive. People simply can’t afford to use things that takes too much time to adjust to and learn, go look up the poverty levels. Again, I’m talking about specific types of people there are many of you that are lovely and considerate. #fediverse
@sass@damon besides there are many WordPress hosting providers that will probably grow their user base now that WordPress.com went this route. It's a win for regular WordPress and competition in the space
@joel@damon But they are related, even if yes technically .com turning this on doesnt affect WP (non .com) itself. So .com emitting this level of sleaze will have a trickle down reputation-wise. It has already begun.
There's lots of reasons to not want AI to scrape your content (I won't cover, but are an internet search away), at minimum these companies should offer an opt-out before they go on scraping, but apparently it’s scrape-now-then-ask-for-forgiveness/opt-out.
I think a lot of my frustration with some of the “consent based” social networking pushers is the lack of consistency. Those same people don’t want to utilise software that will grant them the experiences they desire, instead they want to argue and fight in an attempt to force others. Why not use #Hubzilla#GoToSocial#CounterSocial and others that have more control? Or join spaces that have allow list federation? #Fedi#Fediverse#Mastodon
