hey, quick reminder that i'm also on Bluesky. @tubetime.bsky.social. should i migrate over? i don't use twitter anymore, and mastodon doesn't have many non-techy folks.
@AbandonedAmerica Your photos of the Taunton State Hospital are some of my favorites. That curved hallway, and more are beautiful, but the place sure gives me the creeps.
@stshank I wish writers and editors would rebel and refuse to use these stupid names. To think that y’all could have stopped it, so are partially responsible for the USB naming silliness 🙂

@mattblaze The prosecution made a very good decision to stay out of crypto silliness and keep this focused on simple to understand and prosecute charges of (mostly) fraud. SBF's own words and testimony was icing on a delicious cake.
Lots of points lost on the kerning (The character spacing is boosted something like 130% here and with that Adobe Illustrator badly gooches the AV kerning even in optical mode. Illustrator should do better. But OK it's bleeding obvious it needs hand adjustment. Ditto for the spacing around the O C and O in PROTECTION.)
Minor points take away for modifying Avenir with a border stroke.
@stshank Yes, but Google search itself has become such a crappy experience with shopping results and other bloat getting in the way. It has become enshitified (thank you Cory Doctorow). I suspect one day somebody in Google might wake up and realize what a mess that has become and actually gut large parts of it.
Yes, I know about hashtags. I use them. albeit sparingly, as I think is appropriate, without making my posts #look#like#Ransom#notes. For example, I tag my photos with "#photography". What I won't do is label my "boring" posts, because I like to think that every one of them has the potential to be boring to someone.
@mattblaze What Mastodon needs is pre-read video clips where posters can do an interpretive dance describing their post, indented audience, possible folks offended etc. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Balance arm is now disassembled. Technically the lever-looking bit comes apart further, but it's a pain in the ass to put back together and I don't need it more apart than this.
The objective here is those two tiny purple dots. Those are the ruby pivot (top) and endcap (bottom), which need cleaning and re-lubricating.
Good thing I decided to do this too, that endcap is filthy with 40yo dried oil.
I shoot mostly for black&white. I have two sensors for my camera, a regular color sensor and an "achromatic" black&white only version. I use them both, even though I am almost always shooting to produce a B&W result.
The advantage of the color sensor is convenience. You can essentially add any color contrast control filters you want after the fact in post processing as part of the conversion to B&W. But there are limitations...
@mattblaze Speaking of nightime visits to the Lincoln Memorial...
The best part of President Nixon's surprise early morning visit to the Lincoln Memorial and discussion there with protestors shown in Oliver Stone's movie "Nixon" was he actually did that...
Lol, discovered another "tool" that I should probably get for working on non shock-protected jewels in watches: a piece of 44 AWG copper wire.
First of all, I didn't know wire gauges went as low as 44awg! That's 0.05mm diameter, aka 50 microns, aka 2 thou. That's ridiculous.
The purpose is to stick said wire into the minuscule capped jewel settings, to act as a capillary conduit for oil to pull itself between the setting and endstone.
