That certain accounts and businesses don't utilize Twitter anymore doesn't mean it's dead.

I'd love to see the consequences of Musk's actions finally catching up but it is not happening now as many people remain on the platform and are very reluctant to leave.

Let’s be clear about one thing: No one is “stuck” on Twitter. If you’re still there that’s your choice. Alternatives exist and some are far better than Twitter even though you may not choose to put the effort in to make it so.

Another day, another case of preaching to the choir.

If people want to be there let them, their loss. "No such thing as ethical consumption" etc. etc.
If you want to preach, do it over there please.

dynode,
@dynode@mas.to avatar

@glitzersachen @gedeonm

If a topic starts with "You should do this or you're a bad person" one shouldn't complain about people disliking that.

I am not policing topics btw, merely commenting on the annoyance and ineffectiveness of preaching.

People reading these messages are already here, the implied recipients are not.

I wonder, would an antifungal like copper sulphate work against mold?
Mix a little of it in paint and apply to wall or is this an unwise idea?

Yeah bleach is probably better, also really cheap and "biodegradable", it will eventually disappear.

Btw, I did encounter CuSO4 in organic chicken feed as an antifungal agent.
Probably as little as possible to have an effect.

@xot @jmaris @collectifission

Grid-scale storage is (currently) not a solution because it cannot be scaled up sufficiently.

Hydrogen is an impractical way of storing energy. It requires cryogenic tanks and infrastructure for storage and transport. It has horrible efficiency.
Batteries require even more mining than the current rate.
Hydro is already used at most of its total capacity.

So we really need nuclear or we will sit in the dark!

dynode,
@dynode@mas.to avatar

@kravietz @collectifission @xot

Decarbonization is the goal, not merely implementation of ideologically "pure" methods of generating electricity/energy.

If I see solar panels or windmills I don't feel any strong emotions, it is all valid...

Far cheaper and effective to just apply spray paint.

Also ask questions in local politics why these are permitted in the first place.

badlogic, to random
@badlogic@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

Well, Mastodon is even more fucked than I thought when I built my own client.

Turns out an instance may eventually evict posts from accounts from other instances.

Say you are on instance A, and a friend is on instance B. You two have a convo. After some time, all of B's replies are gone from your instance. If you view your thread, you are missing all their replies. If you are lucky, instance B still has all replies. Or not. Poof.

What a terrible, terrible platform.

dynode,
@dynode@mas.to avatar

@badlogic

Problem also is that a lot of people will not see this as a problem.
Most people are fine with "ephemeral" messages that eventually disappear.
Some people even deliberately set up eventual deletion of their posts, which also will also break threads.

There should be a way to preserve threads that are valuable.

I have often wondered why, when stores close, landlords leave the spaces empty for years at a time instead of lowering rents. The answer, apparently, is banks often won't let them:

Grid-scale storage is vaporware. It hardly exists and is very resource intensive to build and maintain.

It's also used as a moved goalpost, if grid-scale storage is implemented "then" all will be good 🤔

I do support research of novel ways to store energy, it would be a massive improvement if we could store energy in a practical way and at scale.

After Fukushima there seems to be a big push (at least in words) for renewables but the results are disappointing to say the least.
