A new bill in Congress would extend some U.S. military benefits to the estimated 20,000 Americans currently carrying out the Gaza genocide as members of the Israeli military.
I know the Brits aren't very enthused by the idea of #nationalservice, but as an American I've always admired countries with the maturity and wherewithal to implement it. We couldn't even dip our toes into universal health care (ACA) without sparking a national anti-government rebellion.
@stuart@catbuttes
Our young people aren't doing any of those things, in part because education and social mobility have been decimated. And we've allowed it, because we no longer have any shared commitments (education as personal investment, not a public good) . . . which is a problem I think could be remedied by national service.
What has #Biden done that's worse than what #Trump did? I'll start. He went out of his way to bypass #Congress to give arms and money to a country that was clearly committing war crimes.
The police attacks on the #studentprotests, which #Biden went out of his way to endorse before the nation, are at least comparable to attacks on BLM protests under Trump.
Biden appears ready to sanction the #ICC, the international court that prosecutes genocidal fascists.
If u support #JoeBiden for #potus, then you support removing an international check against dictators of the likes of #Trump. It's time for Democrats everywhere to admit that our most important business in #Chicago this August must be choosing a replacement for #GenocideJoe
"The Israeli government is responding to the ICC bid to issue arrest warrants for its leaders with a “political blitz” aimed at undermining and isolating the court"
"Israel’s foreign ministry is also considering a series of measures...these include the establishment of a situation room geared towards getting pro-Israel advocates around the world to repeat the Israeli line both diplomatically and in the media"
The more resistance that the colonized shows, the more brutal the colonizer becomes. Genocidal Israel is now walking in the footsteps of all other settler colonies on their deathbed.
I’m interested in a lot of transit activism in N America but I swear people would think you’re a total weeb if you talk about transit in places with good transit. Trying to imagine talking to people in Singapore or Hong Kong or Seoul about.. loving trains
I think they would back tf away from me and run away.
Like my friend always says ‘I don’t want to be a transit fan. I just want great transit’
@skinnylatte
Americans don't really have a concept of "common good," so introducing them to public transit is more difficult, thus requiring more direct advocacy.
The documentary "Berkeley in the Sixties" is a must-watch for how student activism revulsed the rich white supremacists in this country, making them slash education funding.
I wish we could lay this solely at the feet of the rich, but the fact is that their sentiments were already prevalent among the working poor. Americans, as a culture, have never valued #education.
@xtaran wonders about campaigns designed to boost cycling:
Q4. Given campaigns like #Frostpendeln, #30DaysOfBiking (this is happening right now!) or #Bike2Work: Which type of campaign motivates you most? Are you more looking for "as often as possible" (e.g. at least once per day, outbrave any weather) or more at the distance ("see how "much you cycle get within some period")? Maybe regular group rides similar to a #CriticalMass? Or something completely different?
The bus is to me what the bike is to you. For me it wasn't the time (which is about the same) but the stress of driving in morning traffic, looking for parking, etc. I used to walk into work with my heart already racing. Now I get a soothing morning walk on the way to the bus stop. #publictransit#carbrain
