The big reveal for one of the games I've been working on for a little while is happening in about 40 minutes. Excited to see it and what the reaction is going to be. (Yeah, I haven't seen the trailer internally myself yet.) You can find that happening over here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vovkzbtYBC8

@jay Very cool, I don't know if I've even heard of this entry in the series.

I'm not working today. However, I did receive an email from our Chief Nursing Officer this morning.

It's an invite for a free coffee from a coffee truck that's established in the parking lot of the ER.

"Get a free coffee on us in celebration of Hospital Week and Nurses Week (last week)."

Seriously.

I. CAN'T. EVEN.

If you wash and dry a load of laundry, you also have to be prepared to fold it, and put it away. It's not really helping otherwise.

hybridhavoc,
@hybridhavoc@darkfriend.social avatar

@RickiTarr Yes, folding and putting it away are just steps in the "doing laundry" task. If you skip out on those, you can't claim to have done the laundry.

I broke my #1 software rule... Wait a week to upgrade to see about bugs and user satisfaction.

Full of bugs and useless

Luckily I did a full backup and can start over from scratch and restore.

After only 57 1/2 hours of play time, I have beaten Horizon Forbidden West's main story.

I did do quite a bit of the side quests as well, but not all of them.

I've now unlocked the Burning Shores DLC which I'll jump into at some point soon.

Super fun game, just like the first one was. Glad to have completed it on PC.

hybridhavoc,
@hybridhavoc@darkfriend.social avatar

@cliffwade If someone didn't enjoy the combat from the first game at all, should they even consider the second game?

hybridhavoc,
@hybridhavoc@darkfriend.social avatar

@cliffwade Honestly it was hard to put into words. I played it for about 15 hours and combat was becoming so incredibly unbalanced, it felt like everything I was fighting was way out-classing me. I never liked melee combat in the game at all so kept leaning on ranged combat, but then would have to constantly stop mid-fight to craft more ammo. It just became completely un-fun to me.

hybridhavoc,
@hybridhavoc@darkfriend.social avatar

@cliffwade Cool. That was my assumption, but thought I'd check. Might lookup a good story explainer because I thought the story was shaping up to be interesting.

Have I just been playing this game too much? Because I did one of the first boss fights this morning and I had basically just to sneeze at him and he died. I remember having to reload 3-4 times at least.

hybridhavoc,
@hybridhavoc@darkfriend.social avatar

@WhyNotZoidberg I didn't have much difficulty with him either, or much of anything so far. I chalk it up to playing on PC this time around, versus Xbox the first time I played it. Mouse and keyboard makes combat significantly easier IMO.

It's now been about 2 weeks or so since the wife and I got our first memory foam mattress, which we decided on a Nectar brand.

During these two weeks or so, I've been sleeping considerably better. I sleep a bit later than I was there for a while as I now wake up around 6am instead of between 4am - 5am.

I also don't wake up with a sore back, headaches or feeling like I want to immediately go lay down on the couch and take a nap. (cont...)

scy, to accessibility
@scy@chaos.social avatar

Hey users: How problematic is it when people abuse alt texts to add image credits, license information, or URLs?

Of course I'm aware that it's not what they're intended for, and that, given the choice, you'd rather not have people do this, but how much of an issue is it in practice? I have never really used a screen reader, but I'd imagine you can just skip over an alt text like that, and that it's maybe just confusing for a moment?

hybridhavoc,
@hybridhavoc@darkfriend.social avatar

@scy
I'm mostly just curious at this point about the framing of the question. Like, if you know that's not what alt text is there for and that it's better for people to not do it, then what do you hope to do with whatever answers you get here?

I do not personally use a screen reader day-to-day, though do occasionally use screen readers for testing accessibility. In my experience this sort of use would be extremely annoying.

If they are willing to speak on it, @9ValleyMaiden could say more.

hybridhavoc,
@hybridhavoc@darkfriend.social avatar

@scy You ask if they can "just skip it" but the issue is that when you're listening to the alt text of an image being read out and it gets to something like a URL there is no way to know 1) how long the URL is going to be, or 2) whether there is still useful information on the other side of that URL. The same would go for something like copyright information.

A sighted individual can look at a paragraph and instantly have that context. That isn't available through a screen reader.
