mookie, to Netflix

Zack Snyder’s take on sci-fi looks … meh. Lots of recycled imagery in that trailer from his other movies - Man of Steel and 300 stick out right away. Glowing swords that are reminiscent of Star Wars, but a dreary tone that is not reminiscent of Star Wars.

This week I’m messing about with scroll-linked animations, and I’m having trouble figuring out a way to do a specific pattern. Easier to show it than to describe it, but I’ll try: The animation starts in its timeline according to how much of the element has been revealed, and proceeds from there to 100% as the end of the element approaches the view. In effect, “the furthest point in the element you can see is this much from the beginning of the element.” Any clever clogs care to cogitate?

jbwharris,
@jbwharris@mstdn.ca avatar

@Meyerweb For some reason I think the concept used in this CSS only scroll indicator might be somehow applicable here.

https://codepen.io/MadeByMike/pen/ezLYQL

The idea is basically what's showing in the indicator is just a giant triangle that you're only seeing a sliver of. I just wonder if the approach could be adapted, I'm just not sure how.

PS: @StrangeNoises let me know that in Sonoma you can make that addition permanent, and @dmoren added an instructional post for Sonoma: https://sixcolors.com/post/2023/08/in-macos-sonoma-touch-id-for-sudo-can-survive-updates/

How do you pick and arrange the music you're listing to primarily?

(regardless of the format. Streaming, CDs, Vinyl, etc, doesn't matter)

jbwharris,
@jbwharris@mstdn.ca avatar

@esther None of the above. I use a complex smart playlist setup in Apple Music to distill my music into a constantly changing 300 song playlist. It has the perfect balance of discovery, familiar, covers and Canadian music. I listen to a song, it’s automatically removed for at least 60 days before it can be added again.

@ren it’s funny, my former boss was in this video. I have so much respect for Len after hearing the story. They basically knew they caught lightning in a bottle with that song and took a bunch of the labels money and used it to fly all their friends from St Catherines down to Florida to shoot a guerrilla video. No permits or anything, just getting drunk and fucking about on the boardwalk.

Modern TVs have dimming features that can adjust backlight power in specific parts of the screen, sometimes even at the individual pixel level.

We wanted to see whether adapting BBC content could make use of these features and reduce energy consumption.

jbwharris,
@jbwharris@mstdn.ca avatar

@BBCRD This is honestly a really good idea and a lens that not many people approach building for the web with. Websites and apps have a carbon footprint and you can mitigate some of it with this kind of thinking. Also the idea of web optimization and how fast your site is factors into how wasteful your site might be.

[Music News] Beyoncé is selling $157 “listening only” tickets for her Renaissance tour. The seats are behind the stage, so you can’t see the concert, any of the set, or dancing. (finance.yahoo.com)

Summary: “Beyoncé is selling “listening only” tickets for her Renaissance tour. The seats are behind the stage, so you can’t see any of the set or dancing, but they only cost $157 compared to the ~$900 fans have been paying for regular US tickets.”...

@HobbitFoot I saw some video last week talking about how Jay-Z was one of the faces of Black Conservatism and I’d never really considered it. Their marriage always seemed more like a corporate merger to consolidate power and branding potential. So it wouldn’t shock me if she’s a very careful curated personality to maximize profits than anything.

A quick reminder about (), which I set up a few months ago.

If you listen to and use (if you don't, you should) MastoBrainz will display the last song you listened to on your profile.

It's really easy to set up if you use a account, and you'll get more statistics on the music you're listening to!

jbwharris,
@jbwharris@mstdn.ca avatar

@retiolus I just attempted to get this to work and got a 403 error. Seems to be thin on guidance, so wasn't sure what I did wrong. I created an app in Mastodon, got an access token, added my server (https://mstdn.ca) and tried with and without my username, then added just my ListenBrainz username and I get this error

"There is an error in the information you have provided: ('Mastodon API returned error', 403, 'Forbidden', None)Back"

I believe for to advance:

Win or draw against Australia.

Or:

If they lose against Australia, and Nigeria loses to Ireland, it goes to a tiebreak at 1-1-1 records.

First tiebreak is goal differential. Currently tied. So they would need Nigeria to lose by more than Canada loses by.

Or:

If that's still tied, next is total goals. Nigeria +1 now. Canada would need to lose in a higher scoring game than Nigeria loses in, e.g. Canada loses 3-2 and Nigeria loses 1-0.

@Ryan @wwc they really put themselves in a spot not winning that Nigeria game. It was so there for them too

@misc I view HQ as such an unfortunate thing. It boomed, it busted, but then left nothing. Their formula was easy to emulate, but then who actually knows any of the other shows that watered down the concept? Makes you wish something could actually exist in a vacuum instead of requiring a capitalistic gold rush that skull fucks a given concept into the ground because other people feel there was a nickel to be made copycatting someone else’s success.

@DavidDarnes @robb I can’t say I’ve done a ton with it, but know in my last role I was rather baffled when the devs I was working with couldn’t get the WordPress REST API to work with Gatsby, so I had to enable GraphQL. Felt like enabling a whole other framework because someone couldn’t be arsed to do a bit of learning to get it to work.

@DavidDarnes It's mind blowing how people can tear down someone who's quite clearly very talented down for bullshit. Like I can get some of the grievances, but his stuff feels more like a style than anything. I can't say I'm an avid comic reader, but was certainly interested growing up. And really, the body contortions and anatomy is something that it stretched so heavily in the format, I don't even really bat an eye at Rob's "shortcomings".
