I left Twitter almost a year ago, so I have no idea what it's like over there. Is it really getting this bad?

Opinion piece by Dave Lee:

"There’s money to be made. X’s new incentive structure has turned the site into a hive of so-called engagement farming — posts designed with the sole intent to elicit literally any kind of response: laughter, sadness, fear. Or the best one: hate. Hate is what truly juices the numbers. "

@veronica I left twitter a couple of months ago. My account is still live, but I go there less and less. I use twitter mainly to troll Musk / support Musk-trolls / block Musk-Russia fascists. Twitter is a depressing place to browse but is at its best when Musk does something vile and the uproar overrides the algorithmic bias towards Musk acolytes

    You can't make this sh*t up!

    Trump speaking in Las Vegas yesterday:

    And remember, Florida’s easier than other places, you have the ocean and you have the sun. There’s something about that that works. But — you (Nevada) have the sun, too, but you don’t have the ocean, I can tell. You definitely don’t have the ocean. Maybe someday you’ll have the ocean, you never know,” said Trump, who made a motion with his hand before the crowd applauded him.

    For a long time I used the Codebird PHP library to handle all the dirty lowdown details of accessing the Twitter API, but for Mastodon and Bluesky I’m putting together my own low-level functions for communicating with their APIs, using cURL with no external dependencies. At least, that’s the plan. Mastodon is coming along very nicely now, but Bluesky is giving me headaches because their docs are esoteric and obtuse to say the least.

    What made you decide to write your own interface rather than using the standard open source API's ? Eg the standard Mastodon Python API ?

    Tara told media:
    “I’m still kind of in a daze a bit but I feel very good”- The claim that she is is believable.
    “I feel very surrounded by protection and safety” Anecdotally, is not feeling the same protection and safety.

    Hoo boy, is there ever a lot of emotion swirling around the issue. I share a lot of the feelings but some of the statements are, um… not 100% fact-based.

    So, here is a list of facts about Bluesky and also some opinions.
    Tl;dr: It’s not really that interesting yet: https://www.tbray.org/ongoing/When/202x/2023/04/28/Bluesky

    @timbray I still think is a false flag project as Jack Dorsey still owns more than 2% of . Why would Jack Dorsey jeopardize his twitter investment? The idea behind bluesky is to promise an alternative to twitter, then not delivering, thereby stopping people from moving to other social platforms

    Green_Footballs, to random
    @Green_Footballs@mastodon.social avatar

    Jack Dorsey enthusiastically co-signed the deal that betrayed 200 million Twitter users and handed their accounts over to a fucking right wing egomaniacal billionaire. You’ll have to excuse me if I’m not eager to sign up for another one of this dude’s schemes.

    krisvdm,
    @krisvdm@mastodon.nl avatar

    @Green_Footballs
    I suspect there is something dark behind Jack and his promised blue sky app that is supposed to be a twitter replacement. I read Dorsey still owns a large portion of shares. (2.4 percent).
    I suspect the promised app may be a False Flag operation, so that people wait indefinitely for bluesky. The idea is to stop people from moving on to better alternatives like
