@Eka_FOOF_A I’ll never forget when someone was suggesting CBT to me for MECFS. I was so annoyed, I had no income for gas, and I was so sick that attending an appointment would put me in bed for two days and I wasn’t really willing to give up three days to go to CBT when I think it’s super hokey.

So I said I don’t really believe in that therapy, how is that supposed to help my body produce enough energy to live life and prevent PEM?

So then this doctor tells me that the therapy isn’t going to work for me if I don’t believe in it. Well what the hell then? Antibiotics work on infections whether I believe in them or not.

I did end up seeing a therapist for chronic pain and when I asked her how she helps chronic pain she just told me that it helps people learn to deal with it. Ma’am I don’t actually want to “learn to deal with it” I don’t want to accept this disability when there are actually medications that will help me and I just needed to get decent insurance so I could see a specialist. CBT wouldn’t help me with that. I’m trying to get better so I can at least live a bit of my life.

  1. Declare Long Covid a National Emergency.
  2. Implement Emergency Use Authorization for drug repurposing and trials.
  3. Establish annual funding for Long Covid programs and research to find a cure.
  4. Ensure racial and gender health equity in research, access to clinical trials, antiviral drug repurposing, preventative measures, educational campaigns, and social services.
  5. Enact Clean Indoor Air Laws to prevent SARS-CoV-2 forward transmission in public spaces and forced-congregant settings.
  6. Implement respirator use and clean air protections in healthcare facilities. Additionally, devise strategies to ensure immunocompromised patients or those with Long Covid are given reasonable accommodations and are not penalized. Enforce protected class status for people with Long Covid as disabled.
  7. Fast-track compassionate allowance and sufficient social support for people with Long Covid in addition to increased funding for Home and Community Based Services.
  8. Develop guidelines for physicians on Long Covid and continuing education on breaking research.
  9. Acknowledge that Long Covid affects children and implement specialized care immediately.
  10. Public tracking of SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater at Publicly Owned Treatment Works and provide affordable PCR testing nationwide.
  11. Establish regular White House press communication regarding progress toward stated goals and real time data for Covid transmission awareness.

I don’t understand how people dare fly these days. Between the pilots with the Covid brain damage, the shortage of air traffic controllers meaning they are all overworked, the article that explained that airport check-in areas are dirtier than a public toilet, and the trashy planes that are falling apart because Boeing didn’t think it was worth it to buy the good bolts because it would cut into their profits.

She showed her ass right here. It’s not that she misses going to inside restaurants with her husband it’s that she’s really upset he’s taking Covid precautions, otherwise she wouldn’t be harassing him to take off the mask when it’s not necessary to do so.
Also, when people do this to me I feel unsafe with them. It feels like they are “mansplaining” my own health to me. When they spend that much time and effort trying to convince me that it’s fine if I get Covid I start to believe that they would give me Covid on purpose just so they could say “I told you so.”
It’s also strange that in any other circumstances we wouldn’t call people mentally ill for learning their lesson. This man had Covid and it was awful and it sounds like he still has long Covid and a pre-existing autoimmune disease. Before 2020 we would be praising him for being smart And avoiding self harm.
If I touch a hot stove and it burns me I learn not to touch hot stoves. Wouldn’t it strike you as strange if people were trying to convince you that it was OK to touch the hot stove because even if it burned you you will heal, and you probably won’t die from a stove burn anyway, and lots of people accidentally burn themselves when they are cooking and it’s fine. So touch the hot stove, if you don’t I’m going to worry that you are depressed and anxious. Why won’t you touch the hot stove for me?

@inquiline and this is exactly why I don’t hang out with most of my friends. Most of them are like this. Despite the fact that they know I’m disabled by MECFS that I got from a virus, and despite seeing this was how I lived my life before Covid even came along, for some reason now they want to harass me to participate in dangerous activities because they are worried I’m not living my life, although there was no concern about this prior to 2020.

And I’ll never forget when I had a boyfriend accuse me of having OCD after he watched me get ready for work one day because I wash my hands between putting moisturizer on my face and putting product on my hair, then I wash my hands again before I put my make up on because I don’t want hair product on my face. It made perfect sense to me and in no way does it indicate any kind of pathology. Why would I want hair oil on my face or acne treatment in my hair?

Today, we will rightfully remember the tens of millions of people who have died. We must never forget.

But we must also remember that COVID-19 is still killing, disabling, and excluding too many people today.

We are still in a pandemic. We still need to act.

When privileged folks tell me at my talks “I don’t care about my privacy / I have nothing to hide / Give me one example of the ramifications of surveillance capitalism / etc.”, I tell them “you will care when your health insurance premiums go up because your Smart Fridge tells the insurance companies what you’re eating/drinking.” This is basically the same thing. Sad that it takes things hitting their own wallets for privileged folks to pay attention.

@kikobar @aral I stopped going to the Rite Aid down the road from me because the only way to get the advertised sales price is to use the stupid rewards card. And years ago they stopped letting people use the one at the register if we “forgot” our card.

I’m not paying more than other people when there’s a sale just because I refuse to give them my information so they can sell it. So I just don’t go there.

Hannaford was doing that for a while so I stopped shopping there. I had to go there recently for something specific and I don’t think they do that anymore.

@exchgr @aral that’s not what happens though, they just don’t pay for the insurance, then they’re driving uninsured. Then if they’re in an accident they drive away because the odds of not getting caught are in their favor

It was one of the worst things about living in LA county, so many people are driving around without insurance and if they hit you they just drive away.

I just learned about “Leads On Line”

Apparently in New Hampshire there’s a statute that says secondhand dealers, like pawnshops, and even those cell phone recycling machines at Walmart are required to enter information into a database that the police can just search whenever they want.

They can search my name if they are interested in what you are doing and expect you to be going to a pawnshop, and I believe they can search by merchandise to see if any has received whatever item they are looking for.

I feel like there should be a disclaimer at these places of business that inform people that they will be going into a database the police can browse whenever.

@LouisIngenthron I don’t know, I live in New Hampshire and back in 2021 our governor either did a EO or signed a law that said that law enforcement in the state will never enforce any federal gun laws that are not also state laws.

But, that doesn’t apply to people who have Weed cards and who buy a firearm, they will still come after us. If I decided to use alcohol or Xanax, even if I became addicted to those things, I could still buy a firearm. But merely using cannabis I buy at a drive through licenced by the state instewd of pharmaceuticals means I cannot legally purchase a firearm.
