What the F are the Ds doing?? I don’t want to hear shit about public schools anymore from these people when they just approved domestic terrorism to the school board.

I don’t even have kids and I’m mad about this what even is this?

I went to go look at what was in the funding bill because for some reason New Hampshire decided to award me an extra five dollars and food stamps on Friday going forward, and I’ve had no change, so I was looking to see if there were changes in the government that would have triggered that. but instead I found permission for MAGAt domestic terrorism. Nice job people.

Here's the final section of a letter to the FT from Brendan Kelly (Professor of Psychiatry, Trinity College Dublin) makes a crucial point...

While there is no doubting the problems of mental health, to treat all aspects of these personal travails as illness is to focus too much on the individual and allow our toxic society & workplaces to escape their share of the blame.

Absolutely right!

maggiejk,
@maggiejk@zeroes.ca avatar

@KimSJ @ChrisMayLA6 yep I have an anxiety diagnosis, but I don’t really think I have an anxiety disorder, every time I feel anxious it’s in direct response to some assault on my human rights or my financial stability.

I don’t think it’s pathological to have anxiety about getting tossed out on the streets if the stupid government shuts down for a couple or whatever.

There shouldn’t be an a diagnosis code for being concerned about the reality we live in.

@LeftistLawyer do people remember when President plump defunded Social Security and Medicare?

At the end of 2020 he waived the payroll taxes that fund these things, and he was going to make it permanent if he was reelected.

And I’m kind of glad he did it because that was what convinced a couple people I know who were going to vote for him not to do it.

Unfortunately I think two of those people have probably switched back because they are angry at the drug shortages caused by Biden’s FDA & DEA.

But I think it’s important for all the people who have become disabled by Covid to remember that President plump literally defunded Social Security and Medicare at the end of 2020.

maggiejk,
@maggiejk@zeroes.ca avatar

@feisty_lemming @lappenjammer @PacificNic and that’s the thing, I’ve been disabled by MECFS since 2012. None of these people came over and helped me clean my apartment in all those years, none of these people went grocery shopping for me. They are wonderful if there’s a crisis, when I’ve had to go to the emergency room they will come pick me up even if I’ve been marinating in sick peoples breath for 15 hours

But for the day-to-day survival stuff? Nope.

It’s also interesting that none of them were that concerned from 2012 until 2020 that I was unable to live my life, or that I was isolated. But since 2020 it’s suddenly become important to them that I get out and “live my life” even though I’m not living my life much differently than I had been 2012-2020, suddenly it’s something to be concerned and insulting about.

Hey folks, looking for info (not venting) about crisis lines.

I am aware of community concerns about how calling the 988 crisis line can lead to involuntary detention, involuntary treatment, and/or police calls.

Are there any US-based or international but available to the US crisis lines that are not problematic + well regarded by mental health professionals & clients?

I appreciate insights for or against various services, with references.

maggiejk,
@maggiejk@zeroes.ca avatar

@ShaulaEvans I have never had to use it, but NH had a mental health crisis line you can call instead of calling the police.
It’s (833) 710-6477
They’re send a “mobile crisis unit”.

I know that Los Angeles County used to have one that was really great, my friend used to use it when her son who has schizoaffective disorder would get violent.
She used to call the police, but the police would actually get mad when they came to her house and they didn’t find drugs. The last time she called them they yelled at her because there was no meth there, she was so confused she never claimed there was meth. I guess they assumed a 40-year-old man having a tantrum must mean drugs.

maggiejk,
@maggiejk@zeroes.ca avatar

@ShaulaEvans I just wanted to add that I can almost guarantee that the New Hampshire crisis folks aren’t trying to involuntarily commit anyone because there are no beds for that anyway. If you decide you need to be hospitalized you have to go to the emergency room and then you sit there for weeks and weeks until there is space in the state hospital. And if they decide you need to be at the state hospital for a long time they actually send you to the men’s prison to the secure psychiatric unit.

So even though I have never called them, I would almost guarantee they are not going to try to hold you against your will because there is no place to put you. They would have to bring you to a hospital emergency room and the state recently got sued for holding people there are longer than 72 hours. And they kept doing that because the mental health hearings to decide if you need to be held longer than 72 hours take place at the state hospital, but if there are no beds to bring you two at the state hospital they don’t bring you there. So if it takes three weeks to get there you are held for three weeks without that hearing to decide if they can keep you longer than 72 hours. It’s a violation of peoples civil rights.

Genuine question, where do we draw the line on this way of thinking?

I need money, there’s an Adderall shortage, is society fine with me selling my medication because I need money and other people need Adderall?

I need money to live, is it OK if I become a hitman for cash? People are going to die anyway, if someone’s willing to pay to get someone killed that person is probably not a great person, so is society cool with me becoming a hitman because I really need the money?

OK is society OK with me becoming a hitman for one day pay? Is the line on being a hitman drawn if I get too much money for the murder but a few days Pay is fine?

Is it the amount of profit where people draw the line?

    It has a stainless steel carafe, but that probably means I’m also drinking lead. I mean, probably not because I haven’t damaged it there’s no reason any lead in the layers should be getting in my coffee, but who even knows. Mega corporations in can sell us poisoned products and nobody cares.

    I think I need a French press. I think that’s the only answer to eliminating the plastic I am adding from my coffee consumption.
