maxi,

@aral common, that doesn't make sense. You can even compare characters that only exist in fiction books (their motivation, actions, character traits, etc.). Thus history books make it possible to compare living with dead people.

For me, "no one masks any more" is a all the more a reason to . I don't fully understand people who tend to think this is a reason noit to mask¹...

¹ I've learned that this is about and . As a queer/ND/disabled veganarchist, I might be less susceptible to these effects, partly because I'm just used to stand out & don't give a fuck about social norms. Nevertheless, the power of these effects and the regular clashes of cognitive realities I experience daily are quite frightening.

Should i call it a music radio play?
However, here is the
A scream into The Radio Klotestad radio show!

This episode is even more epic than previous ones, thanks to all the excellent artists: XymMusic / @rybson , Moloko, Chelsea Wolfe, Legowelt, Autechre, Këkht Aräkh, YELLOW MAGIC ORCHESTRA, Offworld, Mistral, Hélène Vogelsinger, 070 Shake, Ken Carson, Flock of Nazguls / @flockofnazguls and of course my humble but also epic self who pasted everything together (and even contributed a song🙂).

Enjoy!

Another episode of the late-stage capitalism's "world wide web"... So I wanted to find out whether other people find the strings of hoodies problematic, and all I found was:

  • On Reddit, someone says they stim with the string all the time, and they often even put it into their mouth. Someone wrote they hate hoodies, and a trans-masc person said they love them. So far so good, but still no deep insights★.
  • Most "search results" are ads to Etsy for "autism awareness" "hoodies" (some of them are actually pullovers or T-shirts), sported with puzzle symbols and ableistic terms like "antisocial"
  • "help autism parents with this hoodie" 🤬

Thanks internet (/s), I'm going to buy a sweatshirt instead... I cannot even imagine that I would like this string (knotted or not), and I don't need a hood attached to something that's essentially a pullover. I already have a jacket with a hood and without that annoying string...

★ If you have any insights, feel free to share them 😊

@kubikpixel Aral wrote positively about Stripe. Aparently their docu of their API is quite good (and even dynamic). You could ask him :-)

Crypto could also be a possibility, lol. I think I wouldn't want to deal with cashouts, but I need to pay for something with crypto anyway, so... It's a can of worms that I generally wouldn't recommend otherwise (also, worms aren't suitable for vegans). I guess it's saying that this disclaimer is the longest part of my reply 😇

    Morning.

Here it is, several thousand years in the making: the protostellar jet HH212 as seen in the infrared by .

We discovered this jet in 1993, glowing in the light of shocked molecular hydrogen at 2.12 microns, as gas emerges symmetrically at about 100 km/s from the two poles of a young protostar not far from the Horsehead Nebula in Orion.

Our new JWST image spans six wavelengths & is ten times sharper than any previous infrared image.

    maxi,

@markmccaughrean These image descriptions are a great added value to this thread. For someone like me who doesn't know about astronomy, it's hard to understand what I'm actually seeing on the images, but it makes more sense with the alt texts. 👍

    maxi,

@rotfarm I appreciate that they ask for alt text "contributions" and later edit them into the toot. I guess they are quite busy with comic things, and asking for an alt text is like "hey, we care for accessibility, but we can't write a good alt text right now (for whatever reasons)" -- same with the hashtag , which everyone can use. Submitting alt texts is also a nice nonfinancial mean of contribution.

    💥 Fireworks! Wow! Shiny!💥

“The loud noises, bright flashes, and pungent scent of gunpowder that accompany fireworks can be a trigger for people who have served in the military, are refugees of war, participated in protests, or survived a natural disaster … For some, these aerial explosions can trigger a full-body response, ranging from heightened anxiety to complete dissociation and hallucinations.”

Shopping clothes is a huge issue for me. What I sometimes describe as "clothing store phobia", can perhaps be broke down to:

    • (Fear of) sensory overload: harsh lighting, music, advertisements, amounts of clothes and information to process
    • Anxiety because of uncertainty (e.g. about the available products and their prices)
    • Social phobia: Sometimes there are a lot of people in shops. Will they judge me for being "weird" (queer & neurodiverse)? Will I be brave enough to ask the sellers if I have some question? What if someone interacts with me and my brain shuts down?
    • Agoraphobia
    • Perhaps lightly traumatic experiences from sensory overload from previous store visits
    maxi,

After I broke down the problem, I can try to find coping strategies:

    • Try to find the product range online.
    • To counter overstimulation, wear protective items such as earplugs (and perhaps blue light-filtering glasses, which I still want to get), and stim rigorously.
    • Go at a time where there are less people.
    • Also plan in time for recovery.
    • If I can look inside the shop from the outside, discretely observe the place and the people; try to make an "mental map", so that I know where to go.
    • First time go only quickly, to get a better overview of the place; next time I'll have fewer fear of going to a new place.
    • Apply hyper-focus and only look for one particular kind of item (e.g. midi-skirts). That means that I also have to make thoughts which kind of style I want to wear.
    • Remember that I don't need to buy anything!
    • If I don't have spoons for fitting clothes, buy them and try them out at home. I can later either return them later or donate them.

Avoidance is still a viable strategy. Buying online can be comfortable, since I'm in a familiar environment where I can dim the lights and block ads & animations. I can carefully compare the sizes with my measurements, so that I have to return (and try on) less.

    maxi,

I would like to try out 's new feature (with the intent that I'd have to start one less chat application since I run Thunderbird all the time anyway). However, I don't know how to verify the session. In Element & SchildiChat, I can click on "verify session" and must ("manually") compare the "Session key". How can I show the session key in Thunderbird?

Inside Thunderbird, when I click on "verify" for some of the sessions in the account preferences, nothing happens... There's no mention of the Session key in the account preferences.

Finally, the font in the message composition text field is too small (but at least it lets me paste text into it, in contrast to Element).

So I managed to go to the haircutter. 💇

I was melting due to heat and anxiety 🥵, but three good things first:

    ✨ I survived
    ✨ I passed a personal milestone (first haircut at a different place after I moved out of my parents' place 7-8 years ago!);
✨ My head feels much cooler now.

However... I'm not sure whether this cut was really what I wanted. I could barely speak, but at least she partially managed to interpret my incoherent utterances. The most important misunderstanding was that I wanted the back of my hair to remain much longer; it'll take months to let it grow out again...

Gender-wise, it looks a bit ambiguous, but much more boyish than girlish (I wanted to skew it more towards the tomboyish side of ambiguity). Perhaps managing the heat is more important at the moment, since I don't really want to 'pass' as anything. I think some other non-binary people already recognize me as such (regardless of haircuts), which is 🆒

Perhaps I'll try a next time.

I managed to make a phone call and I finally got an appointment at a haircutter! Now I have one and a half week to decide which kind of hair cut I want...

    maxi, to Fashion

I'm becoming very uncomfortable with my clothes. I hate to wear most of my old clothes, which are predominantly masc. I really want more femme ones, preferably androgynous.

(Yes, my parents used to choose and buy my clothes, but I really need to find a new style, also because of gender... My clothes lasted many years, but it's time to get new ones that I want to choose myself.)

So I need to divide the problem into two problems.

    1. Finding a new style (see next toot)
    2. Getting new (or, perhaps even better, second-hand) clothes

Advice is appreciated for each of these steps :)

Being doesn't make either of these steps easy. Regarding step 2:

    • Visiting stores causes very high anxiety before entering. If I manage to enter, I get severely overstimulated by the many ads, people, and garments. I twice tried to visit the local free-shop, but I just was too anxious 😐
    • Trying new clothes is very stressful
    • Some sensory issues (see next toot)
    • Online shopping is also stressful and complicated since I don't have (and really don't want to have) a credit card; I only pay via IBAN
    • Getting used to new clothes or even an entirely new style is also difficult; I usually only make small changes
