Introducing Masto Reader. Like Thread Reader App, but for Mastodon.

How does it work? Mention @mastoreaderio(@mastodon.social) anywhere in a thread and say "unroll" and the little bot will do the rest.

Here's an example (that takes a bit to load for reasons)

https://mastoreader.io/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fmastodon.gamedev.place%2F%40badlogic%2F111071396799790275

You can share those links with others.

Links to the crappy source code can be found in the bot's profile.

Everything runs in your browser. The server doesn't log anything either.

Enjoy and spread the word.

@badlogic @mastoreaderio I will literally report and block anyone who introduces bot commands into the responses under my posts. I utterly detested that on Twitter and refuse to accept it be normalized here.

@gamingonlinux I'm the kinda person to take the batteries out of my controllers because I don't trust myself to actually use the consoles I set up, but I'm super scared to break my nailpolish while trying to take out the batteries everytime lol

This is fucked up. No other words for it. A REINSTALL is charged to game devs. #Unity

@gamingonlinux definitely had the denuvo thing near P4G's release when I was trying to get the game to work without random crashes... hate DRM on legitimately purchased software, hate what Unity is doing. Shit like this only hurts legitimate customers and now also indie game devs, while pirates rip that shit out and don't give a damn either way.

    I keep wanting to do a small JS project to get a better feel for the state of the language and ecosystem but then people in the know can't recommend me any good "state of the art" toolchain/structure ("we use X but that's considered legacy many others use Y") so I look for some project's documentation on how to set things up and for some reason after 3 hours having read through half the basic setup docs my CS degree magically catches fire.

    mitsunee,
    @mitsunee@ieji.de avatar

    @tante if that small project is like a library type thing I published a template on my foxkit org that has typescript, linting, formatting and esbuild all set up: https://github.com/foxkit-js/library-template

    cjs builds in esbuild may require some silly hacks at times depending on what you're doing, I'm still discovering those things myself and figuring out how to document them. I included something in the build script to try make default exports work for now.

    My lab (http://devsuccesslab.com/ ) has a new pilot survey open about developers' work experiences & how they see AI tooling in dev work.

    This is a different kind of dev survey. We're not interested in tallying who's using what brands for some trends report. We're interested in how developers are DOING. This is also a pilot test of new measures, so the more folks take it, the more we learn how to design deep research on this! Please share widely.

    @grimalkina cannot answer survey as it is focused around "work". I currently do not have a position at any company, so most of what I write is for personal projects funded by donations from friends and users.

    Loving the new hashtag styling on posts in Mastodon 4.2.

    If you put them on an extra separate line, they get nicely styled.

    Example attached

    I can't describe the amount of rage I have for people that willfully decide to use Discord as documentation host.

    Let's list the problems:

    1. You need a discord account
    2. You depend on discord to stay up
    3. Discord's search function is the only thing known to man to be MORE useless than screaming into the void
    4. CHAT services are not DOCUMENTATION and NEVER WILL BE
    5. HOW DO YOU EVEN FIT A WIKI PAGE INTO A MESSAGE?
    6. WHAT VERSION DOES THIS MESSAGE EVEN RELATE TO??
    7. HOW DO YOU BACK IT UP ๐Ÿคฏ
    mitsunee,
    @mitsunee@ieji.de avatar

    @anthropy for 7) someone should make a bot that reads your discord "docs", converts stuff to markdoc and pushes it to a repo with a @astro starlight project :)

    mitsunee,
    @mitsunee@ieji.de avatar

    @anthropy I sadly have never really looked into writing bots, so it wouldn't be me who makes it. I'm also not aware of any git adapter for node/bun, which is what I'd probably write the bot in if I were to learn that stuff.

    Hearing reports that Baldur's Gate 3 is totally unplayable in Act 3 on Steam Deck.

    This is again why I keep saying people doing "Best Settings" guides are a load of rubbish, because it's always from people who haven't actually played it through.

    Also shows Valve need to improve Deck Verified / Playable to truly take into account performance through longer games - which clearly many times they are not.
