The no-parking areas being imposed on cities by the bike-sharing companies and city councils seem intended to destroy and ridicule the notion that rental e-bikes are a ‘last mile solution.’

I just had to drop a bike 1.8km from my house, after a 7.6km journey home.

Needless to say, countless private cars parked on public pavements in the 1.8km in between.

When scrolling, you are forced regularly to wait five seconds to look at ads, but no ads are displayed.

Pointless ?

Or perhaps it’s an exquisite piece of design fiction that creates these moments of silence when we remember the death of everything good in the world.

Dear Mastodonians,

Could you please recommend European scientists that are researching the environmental impacts of datacenters and/or AI?

I've suggested in my workplace to assess the environmental footprint of our IT infrastructure, which is mostly cloud-based and uses gradually AI.

The Staff Committee might invite experts in the field to gather more information.

Thanks!

I see the tech feudal overlords are now saying there’s no longer a need to learn programming because AI.

These are the same wnkers who earlier said there’s no need to buy or keep physical media (books, music) because they wanted to sell you the same sht on-demand, only you never really owned it only leased it and sorry you have no rights and we f*cked you over.

F*ck them.

Learn programming.

We’ll need your skills when we’ve burned all this sh*t down and we’re rebuilding.

White British are now learning what Irish, Black and Asian people and other immigrants have always known — the UK police are not there to help or protect you. They won’t come when your house is burgled or your car stolen. But they will rape you and assault you and murder you and wrongfully arrest you with impunity. Welcome to the country you wanted back so badly. Enjoy.

No amount of right on pro-Palestinian posturing should obscure what he really is.

There’s a few reasons why western governments are standing with Israel and one of them is arms sales and the other is they’d do ethnic cleansing too if they thought they could get away with it.

I don’t get it. Biden has done a fantastic job as president and seen us through some of the toughest times in recent history. The economy is strong, unemployment is at 60-year lows, inflation is tamed. But there are people calling for that youngster to drop out? (I have 6 years on him…) Why aren’t they calling on the guy who’s been indicted in four places and charged 91 times to drop out?

    morandi,

    @georgetakei

There’s a long history of people voting for their own destruction when the economy starts to climb out of the toilet. Most recent example is Brexit. See also 1933 when the Nazis became the largest party in the Reichstag and appointed Hitler as chancellor.

The tagline “Master AI before it masters you” is deeply fucking troubling. It plays on existential fears, insinuating that AI is a looming threat ready to replace us.

That framing is not just misleading - it’s manipulative, preying on people’s anxieties in an age where job security and identity are paramount.

By suggesting that we’re in a race against AI, it capitalizes on our deepest fears instead of fostering a balanced and informed dialogue.
