How do you feel about physical touch? I mean this is the broad sense, not necessarily in a sexual way, but you can answer however you wish.

Personally, I enjoy it a lot, and find it comforting, but only from really specific people. If strangers or people I don't know well want to hug me, it's okay, but I won't seek it out. I think handshakes are weird. Hey, you want to hold hands with a stranger for a short amount of time for some reason?

@RickiTarr @lisamelton Demanding endless purity tests is part of it. Just look at all the anti-Biden rhetoric from progressives rn for a great example of that. Yes he’s not a great candidate and certainly not progressive, but the only possible alternative is so much worse. Progressives seem to be largely incapable of holding their noses and choosing the lesser of two evils, which directly results in greater evils occurring. It’s infantile.

Well let's see if my checked bags make it to DC. And then if I can get from Washington National to Baltimore in under five hours during rush hour. And then if my connection to Northern Greenland happens.

Amazingly, I've got a full set of Arctic gear in the little green bag (except for my snow boots which take up a quarter of the big orange bag).

I'm really liking the blue Cotopaxi bag. It's got a lot of clever compartments and the waist strap is long enough to fit my fat body.

I try not to think about what work in America would look like if Reagan had never become president and unions remained as strong now as they were in the 60s and 70s.

Okay, picking up from my video game post yesterday, I'm curious:

When you play video games, rpgs, ect, where you get to choose your character, do you tend to choose a character of the same sex, the opposite sex, non-binary, anthropomorphic, or a mysterious 4th option?

If you want to share screenshots of character builds I would enjoy that!

@RickiTarr For no reason I can discern I almost always end up playing the oldest possible woman (opposite gender) the game will let me configure. This usually means I end up as a youthful 40yo… …which says a lot about the age of most game developers if they think thats “old”. 🙄

sometimes i shit on australia because in my entire time living in southeast asia, i've been exposed to unsolicited opinions about southeast asia 90% of the time by aussies who tell us why they hate one country or other, BUT they absolutely flip out when someone says they hate australia. so i don't even think i hate australia, but it's fun to make fun of them

    What is one of your best rainy day memories?

    My Cousin Sarah and I got to stay at our Great Grandma's house together, and it was raining, and she told us we didn't have to be cooped up, we could go play in the rain. This was very exciting, because it's not something our parents would have gone for. So we twirled around and leapt in puddles and licked raindrops off rose petals. When we were done our Gran put us in a hot bath, and made us hot tea and treats. She brought out a big bag of costume jewelry and let us go through it, we tried everything on, and thought we were very fancy, and she let us keep our favorite ones.

    One week induction stove assessment:

    1. Absolutely stellar performance for my use cases, which are
      A. hash browns
      B. boiling water
      C. eggs

    2. Biggest issue:
      A. cookware compatibility

    3. Biggest benefit (aside from energy/no gas burning emissions):
      A. extremely controllable temperature

    Note: Getting other folks to try the induction stove did not go well; I am a technology early adopter and willing to experiment, no one else here is. They are comfortable with using what they have used, even if there are issues (lousy burner design here, for one).

    End result: Likely will switch at home, might have an interim step with a portable cooktop.

    @ai6yr A few years ago we replaced an awful resistive stove top with a cheap(ish) LG induction stove top and it has massively exceeded our expectations. To the point that I don’t see us ever choosing anything but induction in the future (not even gas compares).
