Douglas Ross says John Swinney was “Nicola Sturgeon’s human shield”. And he was the person who brought the “extremist” Greens into the Scottish government. He says Swinney’s fingerprints are over the Scottish government’s “most toxic policies”.

Yousaf says Ross served in Boris Johnson’s governemnt. He even called Johnson an honest man.

@fkamiah17 @capnthommo There’s a very good book called “Mauve” by Simon Garfield about the person who discovered the dye, William Perkin. Fun fact, he discovered it by accident- he was trying to synthesise quinine. A good read, if you can find it.

rebelrebel62,
@rebelrebel62@mstdn.social avatar

@patrickhadfield It’s been a real stramash, poor decisions on all sides (the SNP’s to kill the Bute House Agreement, the Greens’ to side with the Tories in the NCV)- the only winners are the UK parties’ branch managers.

rebelrebel62,
@rebelrebel62@mstdn.social avatar

@patrickhadfield And I understand that- no doubt they feel bitter, the whole thing was very clumsily handled. I just think they’re going to wind up with somebody less sympathetic leading the Scottish government, and probably (now) Sarwar in charge after the GE, which will set independence back considerably. It’s a long way from reputation for competence the Scottish government used to have…

Strange science facts: In nuclear power, functional nuclear fission reactors were constructed as early as 1942, yet nuclear fusion remains elusive and can only be achieved for short periods. In jazz, on the other hand, jazz fusion was invented in the early 70s, and jazz fission remains purely theoretical even today

We've updated the rules of our flagship server mastodon.social today. Most are the same with some clarifications, but one rule is new: Content created by others must be attributed, and use of AI must be disclosed. Profiles that only post AI-generated content will not be tolerated.

rebelrebel62,
@rebelrebel62@mstdn.social avatar

@stux @Gargron Full disclosure- I use AI to generate my avatars, because I have the artistic talent of a housebrick; seriously, my cat could do a better job- and I don’t have a cat.

I do discuss it on my profile page, and I happily acknowledge the artists whose work has been used to train the model, but if AI gives you hives, best to ignore my posts.

Silent Running might be one of the most depressing sci-fi's I've ever watched.
I can see how in the 70s it probably was distant enough to feel like a fantastical drama, and the idea of earth losing its ecosystems with the last remnants being kept alive in outer-space domes was an unrealistic idea, but today it feels just way too current.

Bruce Dern is absolutely amazing, but omg this movie just gets more and more sad until it ends as bleakly as it begun

cannot unsee bunny faces

@JanPV Bookmarked, thanks! I doubt I'll be surprised at the paranoia among the English establishment about ceding control, whether that's to the nations or the regions. You only need to look at the lengths they're going to just to stop Scotland even having a referendum. Basically it would be turning off the grift tap.
I like that there are movements like this gaining ground now. I saw a website for "Free The North" a few weeks ago. Bring back Mercia and Wessex!

rebelrebel62,
@rebelrebel62@mstdn.social avatar

@Henrysbridge @fkamiah17 @JanPV I’ve thought that for a little while as well. There are cultural seams still running through England from where it was stitched together, and the old kingdoms are pretty much the best fit.
