The third shirt I've bought from @show 's swag store. I agree with the sentiment that we need to make charging more equitable but I mostly bought this one because it's a map of Chicago and that's where my wife is from.

They might have gotten away with this 30 years ago when HP inkjets were a premium machine that sold for $400-600. But they've spent 25 years giving them away for less than manufacturing cost and selling the cartridges at a markup. They've trained the public to believe inkjets are worth $36 to buy and own, not $36/month.

This is going to boomerang on them—hard.

How Norway built an EV utopia whilst the US struggles.

82% of all new cars sold in Norway were pure EV in 2023. It’s not hard to do the things Norway did but it helps immeasurably to have a government that’s not a basket case.

Liability insurance SUUUUUCKS.

Because we're a media organization (at least from a company perspective), we have to pay through_the_nose for liability isnurance (which is usually about $4,200 a year).

Then we have to pay for insuring our camera gear too, which is usually another $4,000.

Add that on top of a month where everyone gets paid three times and oft.

There goes our savings!

The World Does Not Need Big Oil's Permission At COP28 to BUILD All The Sun and Wind Needed To Make Carbon Fuels Redundant.

Unneeded, Unused, Underground.

There are $7 billion in subsidies to Oil.

Build All the solar, wind, batteries and grid needed, so not one drop of oil is needed.

End Oil By Building the New Energy.

Unlike Tesla Daily's Rob Maurer, @electrek's Fred Lambert, and a bunch of others who cover Tesla basically saying that Elon was "misunderstood" and that he is not antisemitic, the folks over at Transport Evolved (@show) don't mince words about Elon. They call a spade a spade.

"We have been sounding the alarm on Elon Musk's journey toward authoritarianism. We have called out his transphobia, spreading of misinformation, and most recently antisemitism"

Huge thanks to Chargepoint for being the FIRST, payable J1772 charger I've come across that was in good enough condition to actually use. In this case, these ones were brand new (along with some 60Kw ones) and worked perfectly. Got 11 miles during a little neighborhood pedal about. YAY! I actually got to use this car as it was intended!! How novel!

Also kudos on having the connector lock into the stall and only unlock after payement. Reduces possible vandalism like we experienced in 2022 with the meat stick smashed up into the DC pins.

My latest video for @show is about Trickle-Down EV economics.

Can we please stop pretending that #Uber and #lyft and other #RideSharing platforms are AFFORDABLE?

They're not. They're equitable. They're not universally available. You can't BUY an Uber with cash. You can't get an UberPass.

You can't jump on an Uber for the same price at 12 am as you can at 6pm.

Ride Share is not equitable. It's another way for wealthier citizens to get around, and in its most dire form, a tax on our more vunlerable citizens who don't have a car, whose bus just failed to turn up, and who need to get to work or they'll be fired.

I miss this car. I don't get it.

The EUV was terrible and my heart refuses to be won over by the OG Bolt. This thing was the right amount of everything in maybe a not-so spriteful manner. It was quite close to my late Fiat... a version of it that grew up a bit maybe, works a little too much overtime and put on a bit too much weight, requires coffee in the morning and can't really stay out late tearing up the dancefloor, er I mean curves, at midnight anymore.

But it was still lovely.

If my Volt didn't have the trade in value of 3 expired Hostess cakes I'd be quite inclined to visit the local dealer and grab one before GM turns the new variant into an over-bloated SUV that only the top 10% can afford.

How to write good.

  1. Avoid alliteration. Always.
  2. Prepositions are not words to end sentences with.
  3. Avoid clichés like the plague. (They're old hat.)
  4. Eschew ampersands & abbreviations, etc.
  5. One should never generalize.
  6. Comparisons are as bad as clichés.
  7. Be more or less specific.
  8. Sentence fragments? Eliminate.
  9. Exaggeration is a billion times worse than understatement.
  10. Parenthetical remarks (however relevant) are unnecessary.
  11. Who needs rhetorical questions?

We now have conclusive proof that the algorithm has been unsubscribing our audience and not promoting our content to existing subscribers.

We’ve talked to our YT creator liaison dude and basically he can’t help us. We’ve submitted requests and we get the shrug.

Our ad revenue is at the lowest it’s been in about eight years. And AI generated content that’s completely chock full of fabricated nonsense is stealing eyeballs and ad revenue.

AI is trying to kill us, unintentionally, we hope.

Please make sure you are subscribed.

@show I have a list I check for subscription bell ("All") every week or two.

Your channels are on the list, of course :-)

I do occasionally find a channel gets unsub'd, but more worryingly (from my POV) the recommended stuff swings between vids I want to see, and trash I wouldn't waste my time on, and back again.

It seems to go in cycles. No, I don't have a clue why...

G20 poured more than $1tn into fossil fuel subsidies despite Cop26 pledges – report

"The G20 poured record levels of public money into fossil fuels last year despite having promised to reduce some of it, a report has found."

"Fossil fuels release pollutants when burned that heat the planet and make extreme weather more violent. They also dirty the air with toxins that damage people’s lungs and other organs. Scientists estimate the air pollution from fossil fuels kills between 1 and 10 million people each year."

"In June, a report from the World Bank found that “by underpricing fossil fuels, governments not only incentivise overuse, but also perpetuate inefficient polluting technologies and entrench inequality...Of all subsidies to the energy sector, about three-quarters go to fossil fuels."

“With fossil fuel companies gaining record profits amid the energy crisis last year, there is little incentive for them to change their business models in line with what’s needed to limit global warming...But governments have the power to push them in the right direction.”

Reducing space for cars is often equated with reducing access for people with disabilities.

This is not only false, it prevents cities from creating enabling environments; where those who can't drive can still move safely, conveniently, and autonomously.

Since November last year, we've been on team EV. I used to spend around 200€/month on gas (95E). A road trip to Helsinki (600km or so) would cost 180€. It now costs 14€ and added no extra travel time (we eat while the car is charging, one 40 minute stop).

We charge at home, off-peak hours while we sleep. Once we place solar and home energy storage, we go completely green.
