You do not understand how many people I contact for the podcast who tell the timezone they are in and I have to double check it because daily light savings exist. It has to be at least 50% of people

I had to put a bandage on my left index finger, now I realize how much I got used to the bump on the J key.
It isn't having a huge effect my typing accuracy but it feels extremely wrong, it's like I am always uncertain about where my finger is on the keyboard

also, pro tip: read the manual and guides before disassembling something (especially the Pinebook Pro)

@vintprox yeah, the bottom cover is metal and sharp in the area that looks like the perfect area to hold when trying to remove the cover, they did have a warning on their website but I read it after the fact

Also bad screw heads sucks, I used zip ties to attach some of my pc case's fans because they some of them got stripped while screwing them in (note, to reduce the chances of this avoid using screwdrivers that don't match the screw)

If on a major update your desktop (GNOME, Plasma, Cinnamon, i3, etc) opened a popup asking you to donate, it only appeared once and if you don't ever want to see it there was an option to fully disable it, would you be opposed to this? #Linux #OpenSource #FOSS

@BrodieOnLinux I voted but this only under the assumption that disabling them would be easy and simple (like just a "don't show me this again" button or a "remove this line from the default config ask_for_donations=allow" disclaimer for stuff like i3)

I'm curious how many of you actually use a screensaver (not a lock screen) on , the screensaver fans are very loud about them but surely there isn't that many of them

@BrodieOnLinux Screensavers just waste power/monitor's life with no advantages, imo it's just better to use DPMS to turn them off (and I think this might have been the default config for me)

Do we even need screensavers for non-CRT non-OLED monitors?

Okay everyone, here I am once again asking a seemingly meaningless question:

Would you rather prefer a blog's RSS feed if it contained only the summary of all posts, or the full text but only the 10 most recent posts?

(I have learned from personal experience that every RSS reader I can try will choke on a feed file that's several tens of MB in size if I run full text all posts)

I found a thrumb drive with an ancient back up on it and discovered some absolute gems, here is me chilling on what I think was our first family computer running Vista. Parents coming from a farming background didn't really care for computers until the early 2000's

Sci-fi, Adventure, Mech and Comedy SoL are my prefered genres, I also like Fantasy that is not the "isekai with ultra-op edgy protagonist" ones (I still watch them though when there is nothing more interesting for me to watch in a season)

I haven't watched SoL for long time though (I really should continue Bokutachi no remake)

My preference goes to seasonal anime because they are safe from being binged in few days (I really hate ends, all ends are bad except the ends of bad anime)

    @jikodesu I am bilingual (Arabic is my native language) and I am on Fosstodon, the admins made their reasoning about why they don't want to moderate other languages very clear so stop assuming bad faith when it's clearly not the case

    The way some people are getting offended and attacking Fosstodon for not supporting their language comes off (unironically) as very nationalistic (even though some of them are trying to imply that it's Fosstodon admin's that are)

    The instance's admins made it clear that moderating languages they don't know is a hard task for them, they did not force anyone to join the instance, joining is only the user's choice

    Comparing this to colonialism (where some countries decided that they own other countries and invaded them to steal) is extremely disrespectful to both people who died and fought colonialists and frankly, to admins who are falsely accused of colonialism

    I've seen it, the most interesting thing is that I (and probably everyone) have always known about the inaccuracy issues without realizing how much of a problem it is for all (including LTT) and only watching the channel for entertainment

    I also believe that some people are misrepresenting the sale of the cooling block and talking about it as if LTT intentionally decided steal the block out of greed rather than just extreme negligence (which is a HUGE problem but not a crime)

    There are lots of interesting group accounts you can follow on here, they work like this:

    1. Follow a group's account to see discussion of its topic
    2. @ the account if you want to post to the group
    3. The account boosts anything @-ed to it, be careful when you @ them so that you don't spam the group (spammers tend to be reported and blocked)
