Apologies for reduced interaction lately - due to ill health.

In life, possessions are not what is important. Friendships and family are. Shared experiences are. Helping others achieve their potential. Making the world a better place for everyone. Stop voting for MPs who only care about 'stuff' like gold wallpaper.

(Who I am isn't important - I'm not here to promote myself)

Life is an education, and I hope to learn from many of the wonderful people here.

While accurate data is hard to assemble, it now looks like around 8-10% of people who are 'self-paying' for private medical treatment are borrowing the money.

As the Tory defunding strategy has pushed more people into the arms of private healthcare so their chums in financial services are also starting to garner some more business.

That desperate people are being forced into indebtedness to pay for treatment is a sad confirmation of the Tory's strategy of wrecking the NHS.

10 years ago I dislocated my sacroiliac joint, suffered from debilitating damage to my sciatic nerve. 24/7 intense pain not stopped with painkillers & an appointment to see a specialist 6 months away, i eventually went private. Diagnosed within 2 minutes, started treatment straight away. Couldn't work for a year. Lost taxes to Govt. Lost my house. For something the specialist told me I could have recovered from in 2 weeks if diagnosed straight away. Tory cost savings?

ChrisMayLA6, to disability
@ChrisMayLA6@zirk.us avatar

Across the political Right, the narrative is that disability benefits (primarily Personal Independence Payments; PIPs) are too easy to get & are often paid to the 'undeserving'... however, in reality nearly half of applicants are rejected, rising to over two thirds for endometriosis (a gendered dimension I'll leave you to ponder), but with high rates of rejections over-turned on appeal (often with the same evidence).

More Tory lies, callousness & inhumanity

This is outsourcing to the extreme - not content with policies and actions that knowingly kill their own citizens, the government now asking citizens to do the job for them by committing suicide.

It shouldn't take an international court ruling to tell our Leaders that killing 10s of thousands of people as a precursor to eradicating a whole nation is wrong.

    I do not envy Americans, having to choose between a wannabe dictator, and... i cannot think how to describe him, a man who has no conscience over being a direct enabler of the killing of 10s of thousands of people, providing the funding, the political support, and the weapons.

    How does someone sleep at night knowing they could have stopped so many deaths, but made the choice not to.

    Earth is estimated to be about 4.54 billion yrs old.

    Homo sapiens appeared about 300,000 yrs ago.

    Modern humans started to evolve about 50,000 yrs ago.

    The industrial revolution started about 250 yrs ago.

    Astronomers estimate that the universe could contain up to 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 stars.

    We are a blip. Insignificant.

    Billionaires & millionaires are trying to kill us all before we've barely begun as a species. Their self-importance would be laughable if it weren't so tragic.

    In an increasingly polarised world and as more nations turn (fall?) to right wing governments, Human Rights are more fragile than any time since 1948.

    Even beyond those relating to war, a few examples of articles broken daily in most 'democracies’:

    Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion.

    Everyone has the right to freedom of peaceful assembly and association.

    Everyone has the right to form and to join trade unions.

    Video evidence of NYPD punching, brutalising, & arresting peaceful protesters

    "New York police have beaten & arrested several protesters at a pro-Palestinian demonstration in Brooklyn."

    As the protesters reached an intersection, "officers rushed in & grabbed people out of the crowd seemingly at random.

    "Officers tackled multiple protesters to the ground & then proceeded to punch them."

    Unions Should Start Planning for a Mass Strike on May Day 2028

    Is it time for a big, united strike by millions of union members against the billionaire class?

    Calls for a general strike usually skip over the hard work of organizing one. But UAW leader Shawn Fain is urging unions to align their contract expiration dates for May 1, 2028 — setting up the possibility of a mass May Day strike.

    There are a lot of people who are neither Jewish or Muslim that think this genocide is wrong.

    I AM anti- indiscriminate mass murder.

    I’m sure Biden has his reasons - even if they are the wrong ones.

    And yet I can’t help thinking that he has focused on what appears to him to be in America's best interests without looking at the big picture, and how this could cascade into more political violence and instability globally, including against American interests abroad.

    Whilst this should have been a purely ethical decision, even out of political self interest I believe he has made a big mistake.

    Joe Biden could still turn this around and not lose to Trump by defunding Israel’s genocide of the Palestinian people. If he doesn’t, there will be only person to blame for Joe Biden losing to Trump in six months and that’s Joe “I am a Zionist” Biden.

    sufferforme,
    @sufferforme@mstdn.party avatar

    @StillIRise1963 @aral

    Aral didn't actually say this was a solution.

    He simply said that if Biden loses, that is on BIden.

    It has always been in his power to listen, and change course. He is gambling with America's future, knowing his actions could cause him to lose. He is gambling that the fear of Trump will enable him to continue to enable genocide, and still win.

    I don't have a solution. I think Americans are faced with a ghastly choice. I am grateful I do not have to make that choice.
