To me, @pixelfed’s new comment controls are an incredibly big deal, and something I’ve been pleading for Fediverse developers to implement.

It was always a big oversight that, while Fediblock exists, you’ve never been able to control comment permissions. This has created unfortunate situations where, when harassment and dogpiling suddenly happen, there’s little the original poster can do about it.

Well, this will soon change.

@dansup has pioneered comment controls and we can all use as a model to build a safer .

Thank you to Pixelfed for this big step in community safety!

Ah yes, the mythical "hackers", always responsible for any and all evils related to computers.

Corporate espionage?
Nah, "hackers".

NSA? GRU?
Nah, "hackers".

Illegal police operation?
Nope! "Hackers".

A kid who happens to know how to open their browser devtools?
Definitely "hackers!"

I can't roll my eyes far enough. 🙄

My standpoint is that, not only should all social software support ActivityPub, it should be required by law.

Further to that, all social software should have an account migration path towards and away from it.

No, I’m not saying all servers should federate with each other. What I am saying is that it should be impossible for any one server software to monopolize the network effect.

Study: In the first two years of the pandemic, the US saw an estimated 1,179,024 excess deaths. While it struck large metropolitan Northeastern counties early, "nonmetropolitan Southern counties had the highest cumulative relative excess mortality by July 2021." In other words, Republican, rural areas most likely to deny the risks, reject the vaccine and refuse to wear masks.

@laurenshof table-stakes interoperability is quite simply functional link embeds, which BlueSky and Mastodon/ActivityPub could surely support both ways without any major complications.

I know I’ve mentioned it a lot, but it still blows my mind how well the spam detection service works in @pixelfed

When your platform is based on photo sharing, it’s much easier to notice spam in timelines, and also harder to detect spam.

I look forward to sharing some groundbreaking ways we are working on improving this in the coming days!

Who would’ve thought the php project that took forever to federate would later become a pioneer in so many ways 😉

Interesting results! I am a "strongly agree".

All software that is going to federate should support ActivityPub. It is the standard for social network federation.

All social software should federate.

My friends and colleagues @mlinksva and @cwebber and others at Creative Commons worked on an RDF vocabulary for Creative Commons licenses.

https://creativecommons.org/ns

We should probably work on having better support for that vocabulary in ActivityPub servers, and figure out what finer-grained permissions there are.

Contrary to using Twitter or Facebook, you didn't agree to an End User License Agreement for the social web. Your rights here should be pretty broad.

I have closed my public instance, finecity.social, binned my account there and moved back to mastodon.social. My bots will keep running on calckey.bloonface.com but I won't use that site for anything else any more.

I have fallen out of love with #Mastodon and #fedi in a big way, I don't intend to use it much any more. The past couple of weeks has crystallised that this isn't really a platform I like much.

There's another commonality neither of us mention: a significant group of diehards bitter about the fact that their chosen solution is an also-ran, and willing to blame absolutely everything and everyone except a) themselves and b) the solution itself
