PC Mag reviews best apps for 2023....Good run down of some great apps.

FYI: suspended about a dozen new crypto spam accounts to keep this servers timeline clean.

The one's I'm seeing now were on Mastodon.world - and clearly migrated there after being moderated away at Mastodon.social.

This is an issue for all admins, not just Mastodon.social and good that we all manage/block/nuke this together.

All part and parcel with the Fediverse getting bigger, now it's a target for junk like this. Still FAR better resilliance here than Twitter.

I am a very happy customer - and if you look on , they are one of the top Fediverse-enabled platforms (in the top 6) and just launched the ability to post to both Mastodon/Fedi and .

They are having a virtual yearly event online and it's about to kick off. And @Onmyom will be one of the keynote speakers.

This week's is some of the folks I'm watching closely on the discussion and development work on bridging and

@snarfed.org
@ramsey
@profcarroll
@anildash
@erlend
@Hamishcampbell

And many others in this Mastodon-compatible Frendica group focused on developing that interoperable bridge:

Quick bet: will grow dramatically over the next quarter.

And the will continue to grow at AT LEAST 800,000 to 1 million+ new users per month as well. No let up.

Dramatic new apps will launch supporting BlueSky AND cool new features launching in great apps for Mastodon.

A decentralized rising tide of awareness lifts all decentralized boats.

Meanwhile:
Twitter will lose Monthly Active users. So will mini-me closed source platforms (Spoutible, Tribal, etc)

Daily traffic to the top two and servers over the last 28 days.

This is data analytics company Simliarweb. It has a small delay on web traffic - its data goes till June 11th, but that is updated daily, and I'll update picture as it does.

A snapshot of decentralization: Via my Mastodon account I have 1,231 connections across 1,706 servers...

The latest stats over the last six months from - a tool for sites publishing over to various social platforms.

"The other striking trend is the marked uptick in Mastodon account growth since Elon took over back in November. It’s more than doubled in the last 6 months, from 557 on Nov. 1 to 1125 yesterday! Exodus indeed."

Happy Father’s Day everyone!

To all the Dad’s out there - and those taken on the roles of a Dad - struggling to do right, more strength to all of you. May you be a good one.

FYI, @activitypubtestsuite - while we work to bring ActivityPubTest Suite 1.0 back to life - as a stop-gap measure- it looks like @dansup is working on this which feels very promising for a new tool…or tools. https://kbin.social/m/fediverse/p/561391/Really-excited-for-the-activityPub-developer-tools-I-ve-been-working

Was at W3C meeting today & had a great discussion on this

"2. Test suite. The need for a test suite for ActivityPub was brought up. The original test suite is now offline. There is discussion of work on a test suite on the AP group @aactivitypubtestsuite ....We agreed that test suites require a lot of effort and decided to orient any work on test suites towards the group."

@pluralistic got it right in Feb:

"...new services always experience 'scalloped' growth. That’s where an outside event — a positive narrative about the new service, or a catastrophe affecting the old one — drives a surge of new users.
Some...try the new service, decide it’s not worth it, and leave — but not all of them. Each event triggers a high tide of new signups, but the low tide that follows is still higher than the old ...Surge after surge, the number of users steadily builds."

I thnk this article from @nexusofprivacy does a good job describing the back and forth over preemptive defederation of ...

https://privacy.thenexus.today/should-the-fediverse-welcome-surveillance-capitalism/

A few quibbles, friendly amendments:

One: I would replace "Trust but Verify" with "Watch Like a Hawk with Your Finger on the Block Button."

(I used that term once meaning it as Reagan used that old Russian aphorism - align warily knowing you NEED to verify as you think they could likely break the deal...)
