So, this was released today. My third stamp with Canada Post. Qarlinngua (The pants). And technically my second stamp with a family member in it, as the tiny figure in it is my son Travis. Now for one with Hilary in it.

I’ve very proud of all of these, beyond the cache. They are about my home, and family. And also my family has a long history with the Post Office, 101 years. My grandfather, father, and brother were all postmasters in Roblin.

Experts say "There's been a lot of optimism that will just go away, and we're now seeing very firm evidence that that is not going to happen."

Sorry for friends and others dealing with this insidious condition. 😢

I wish governments were better at listening and responding with support rather than platitudes too.

@dave @Kay I think Marc Daalder did a number of OIA requests to a range of government departments asking what their long Covid plans were. All were rejected because there was no such information to release. Included Treasury, iirc.

Edit: Here’s a report from him.

OK. What's the most remote place on Earth you have visited? My personal record is Oeno Island which is "fairly near" Pitcairn Island in the middle of the Pacific.

thirzajane,
@thirzajane@mastodon.nz avatar

@iangriffin I visited Hay River in Canada. It’s a town with an airport and everything but not the sort of place you end up visiting accidentally. Also have flown over Campbell Island but didn’t visit.

How will I cope with that? I heard that the spring time is worth seeing in both of the countries, so maybe we'll travel in Nov/Dec 2024! What do you think?

thirzajane,

@KissAnne The weather is still pretty uneven in Nov/Dec in NZ but I think the driving will be okay. If you wanted to test yourself on it, couldn’t you go to the UK for a weekend.

    @ojala I noticed voting was set up in the corner of a restaurant the other day, in a private room. People could vote while they were waiting for their meals.

    Whenever I see things like that or hear stories of the barriers put in the way of people voting in other countries, I am really proud of the work our electoral commission does.

    We adopted this lovely cat at a shelter 5 years ago. We’d just dropped off our dog for grooming, and Petco had a little area for shelter cats. She let out the cutest little meow. We had no experience with super senior cats (she was 11/12 at the time), but knew that she wanted to be with us. She’s now 17 and she is our precious Mila. She loves chicken, hates rabbit, loves tuna and she sounds like a gremlin when she plays. Senior cats are so rewarding to love.

    @IcooIey Being retired and a reader I looked into this but in the end I didn’t think my husband would like it much and it seemed a bit mean to go off on an adventure of this magnitude without him. Still look at the possibilities from time to time though.

    @dave I remember reading this in June 2020 and thinking that wasn’t very sustainable:

    An online survey of 151 medical professionals who fell ill in March found 68 are still unable to work. A further 26 went back, only to stop again when symptoms returned.
