Anyone arguing in favor of arming school teachers needs to first explain to me where in the budget you're going to find the money to buy 27 Glocks when you cheapskates won't even buy us printer toner.

tito_swineflu,
@tito_swineflu@sfba.social avatar

@Lana Seems to me that once you get those glocks, a gang of teachers can roam around town holding up office depots for school supplies. The guns will pay for themselves!

I'm going to explain programming languages to you based on their emblems.

Starting from left to right, on the top line:

  1. This is some Sex Snake Cult bullshit, if you use this you may not be in a Sex Snake Cult, but you definitely want to be.

  2. This is some old school shit, you first learned this is a 90's coffee shop, while complaining about how fake Hackers was.

  3. Ya basic.

  4. This is the prequel to Big Hero 6, it wasn't good.

  5. Ya still basic, but you call yourself an overachiever.

  6. This is what the Programmer says when you try to ask him a single question. Fine BRIAN, I'll try to figure out what a browser is BY MYSELF!

  7. You're old, even older than #2, you complained about how War Games wasn't realistic.

  8. Whoever designed this emblem got their feelings hurt by Bell Labs, and it shows.

  9. Yeah guess what, ya STILL BASIC, now it's just really obvious to everyone, and you've definitely been involved in an MLM.

  10. You're pretty good at programming, but not at life, you probably sell drugs as a side gig.

After all the news about Amazon grab and go being essentially Mechanical Turk, a friend on discord said:

And I'm just afraid Tesla is going to totally "Ender's Game" this.

I told y'all, you're following Black folk like me around the store, while non-Black people like Winona Ryder rob you blind. 🤷🏿‍♂️

@mekkaokereke I bet the rent on that Detroit Whole Foods was at least 1/10th of their rent in the Market Street location.
The Target near my house on 13th and Folsom just closed. Of course, they whined about crime, but the real deal was they didn't like paying high rent for less square footage than they could get elsewhere, and they need larger square footage for their pivot into more online shopping/delivery model.
It's amazing how easy it is for these companies to make things up in their press releases and have no-one fact check them.

Anyone who says that smart people will find a way to get ahead is peddling some sort of capitalist snake oil. Simply meeting a few rich people should disabuse anyone of the idea that merit wins out.

Yesterday, in front of the Target at Folsom and 13th, a UPS truck pulled into the bike lane to park. A biker crashed into the bumper and flew into the back of the truck. There were cops all over, but I didn't see any ambulance.
My UPS driver, whose truck it was, but who was out at the doctor's yesterday, was upset that the driver parked in the bike lane, saying he wouldn't do that. He also said that he heard reports that the bicyclist had died. Does anyone know if the bicyclist survived?

81yo Dad has COVID. Doing OK so far.

65yo brother-in-law has COVID too.

I tested negative this morning, but have symptoms.

We've been out and about, and haven't been masking. Vaccinations up to date and no health issues, aside from Dad's age.

Sister's place, PWHL game, Dad visits his gf at the LTC home regularly, it's had a COVID outbreak, but I think it was a couple months ago...local restaurant, etc etc.

It's still going around #ottawa

I like this paragraph:

"Given these constraints, it seems just as likely to me that generative A.I. could end up like the Roomba, the mediocre vacuum robot that does a passable job when you are home alone but not if you are expecting guests.

Companies that can get by with Roomba-quality work will, of course, still try to replace workers."

Low ticket prices, that was typical for punk rock/hardcore concerts

Fugazi at Irving Plaza, New York City, April 4, 1995. Tickets are a super cheap $6 👍

tito_swineflu,
@tito_swineflu@sfba.social avatar

@historyofpunkrock Of course, many bands (mine included) can't even make money by playing live, because we're punk and weird.

tito_swineflu,
@tito_swineflu@sfba.social avatar

@historyofpunkrock One thing about ticket prices is the collapse of physical media sales. In the 80's and 90's, record labels were basically printing money. Someone like Fugazi, with limited marketing costs, could make as much as 4 dollars per CD. Given that Ian told me that they'd sold 2 million records by the time they released Red Medicine, that's a lot of money.
Nowadays, bands can only make money playing live. It doesn't excuse the high ticket prices, but there is a lot of pressure to fill the income hole left by the collapse of physical sales.
