Massive leak at confirms what we have all known for years, just how much is tracked, stored, and monetized.

Even clearer now how Chrome tracks and reports EVERYTHING you do. For heavens' sake delete it now and move to Firefox

My employer just launched an "Inclusion, Diversity and Equity" survey. They claim that it is anonymous, but you have to log in before you can take the survey and it has a "Consent to Contact" section.

Word meanings can change rapidly these days, but I wasn't aware that the word "anonymous" had changed.

Not enough people realize that the "Turing Test" as originally presented was "can a gay English man in 1945 tell the difference between a chatbot and a femme-coded woman" over a teletype connection.

(Turing was very gay and had a sex-segregated education and then work life: he basically didn't know women and his alienation is palpable. But today's techbros don't have any such excuse, and the emphasis on femme-coded AI is ... telling.)

@cstross I'm reading Echopraxia by Peter Watts and one of his characters talks about the role of pareidolia (or something like it) in the creation of organized religion. I'm seeing a lot of parallels with generative AI and the Turing test.

Oh, it's absolutely a religious belief masquerading as science. The notion of AGI eventually becoming a certainty is unprovable in many ways, and it even has its own devil in the form of Roko's Basilisk.

And like all religions (including some varieties of capital-A Atheism!), it gathers its share of hucksters and mountebanks intent on siphoning as much money as possible out of the True Believers.

Trying to write a exploration tool. I've been putting it away because GUIs are painful.

Now trying again: looks fine, but not clear how to style tables.

Maybe I'll go back to . The idea of callbacks can be annoying, but at least styling is a breeze. You can even put widgets inside cells!

It turns out that making GUI is hard.
