So, I finally finished the basic bring-up of the board I’ve been assembling the last couple of days. I found the dead short from 3V3 to GND under the ADC, but needed to do a lot of digging to find it.

Right now, the MCU seems to work using its internal oscillators, and a quick poke shows that the 12MHz crystal is working too. The I2C ADC and GPIO expander appear to be responding, but the RTC isn’t (yet?)

I also think I melted the push-buttons because they don’t push now, and there’s one LED I forgot to hook up to anything in the schematic…

Shutdown of 3G networks a ‘health and safety issue’ for some regional Australians

Telcos have promised no loss of coverage when the 3G network shuts down, but farmers outside of official coverage areas are worried their lifeline will turn off

@anathema_device First world problems, but my 6-year old connected vehicle will have no signal for real-time traffic updates (and probably other purposes that I will have the potential misfortune of discovering) when 3G drops. This is in suburban Melbourne, so I'd hate to see the ... disconnection ... in rural areas.

What should I add to my '90s website?

So I'm currently toying around with NeoCities, and decided to trial it by building your classic mid '90s Geocities/Tripod/Angelfire pastiche website.

Some of the most important elements are already in place.

Tile background? Large font? Heading in bright pink with a shadow? Unusual colour choices? Random cat gifs? Under construction gif? Check! Check! Check!

In the true spirit of the '90s DIY web, some more pages (including the links page) are coming soon.

(I'm thinking of adding a page dedicated to either Britney or a nu-metal band.)

You can see the page so far here: https://that90ssite.neocities.org/

There are a few things that I want to add to make it complete, and I'm looking for suggestions.

The first, is to embed a midi file that plays automatically. Any suggestions on the best way of doing this?

Second, it's just not going to be complete without a guestbook.

Third, any webring suggestions?

Fourth, what's the best way of adding a java chat room in 2024?

Finally, anything else that really needs to be a part of a great '90s website?

UPDATE: Thanks for all the feedback! I've added more annoying GIFs, a guestbook, a links page, and a cyber cat hangout.

UPDATE 2: And added even more gifs, an amazing Amiga demo, and a ton of links.

: I'm trying to find a white paper? from 1-2 years ago that was arguing for a third classification in Australian universities - to add a specific research software engineering category, because professional/general and academic pathways don't account for specialist software engineering skills.

It's not the survey report, but is possibly in a similar space?

The adult children of Donald Trump begin to appear on the stand this week in the New York civil fraud trial. Now it looks like the No. 3 Republican in the House, Tom Emmer, is the new nominee for Speaker. This comes after McCarthy was deposed, and Scalise and Jordan both failed to get to 217 votes. Emmer asked for a roll call vote among his conference, and he looks like he is still more than 20 votes short. And look, Democrats would work with Emmer if he would agree to bring the budget and Ukrainian funding to the floor for a vote. But so far, he doesn’t want to dance with any Democrats. A bipartisan solution remains elusive, so the Speaker’s chair remains empty.
