ONCE AGAIN: companies DO NOT GIVE ONE FUCK & will treat the Things you love w/ disdain & zero respect. ALL THEY CARE ABOUT IS PROFIT and that means most will eventually fail, because their goals are not sustainable.
They don't want you to realize the lie of "buying" something digitally, which is: you don't REALLY own SHIT.
⭐ BUY PHYSICAL MEDIA IF U R ABLE, or be at the mercy of their capricious, greedy whims ⭐
Looking for a way to rip BluRay discs so I can stream the videos via Plex, on Manjaro Linux. Every site on the net points to MakeMKV, except the BETA key for that expired at the end of April, and the site hasn't been updated with a new one... So, anyone got any ideas?
Got my Special Edition Blu-ray of THE BORDERLANDS (AKA FINAL PRAYER in the U.S.) from Second Sight Films and it is GORGEOUS. It comes with 6 art cards and a 70 page book with a bunch of essays about the film. 😍
Strongly tempted to order Criterion's Straw Dogs #bluray almost solely for the special features, which look to be many and interesting. It's not a film I enjoy much, unfortunately, though I count myself a Peckinpah admirer. I'd be buying it out a sort of scholarly interest. https://www.criterion.com/films/730-straw-dogs
‘One day you’ll barter bread for our DVDs’. J Oliver Conroy's insightful article about the counterrevolution - the comeback of physical films, many good reasons why people go back to physical discs and why people regret decluttering their DVDs. 246 comments already, most agree.
Streaming services are getting more expensive, cracking down on password sharing, pulling content for tax write offs, and pushing people onto ad tiers.
But if you were hoping to go back to physical media, good luck! It’s almost impossible to find anymore.
Recién acabada de verla, me ha gustado mucho 🙂. He aprendido mucho sobre este grupo, a-ha, que sigo desde hace tiempo, y que hay momentos que ha sido mi propia banda sonora. Muy recomendable.
They're like the 100-in-1 #pirated Game Boy cartridges of #music :sagume_think:
This is the shit I am #nostalgic about :akyuu_headphones:
I'm kinda surprised they still exist here in the #Philippines, but if there are pirated #DVDs and #Bluray being sold in the black market, why not MP3 CDs as well? :satrithink:
There is currently a resurgence in the popularity of Blu-ray and DVDs. This renewed interest in physical media is primarily driven by factors such as ownership, increased availability, and the desire for premium experiences.
Digital purchases can be vulnerable to sudden removal without prior notice. This means that even if you have bought a digital copy, it can still be taken down from the streaming service.
More and more people are buying physical DVD/Blu-ray media.
I have been saying for some time, you can't depend on streaming services to keep your favorite shows available.
Same for music.
Oppenheimer's Christoper Nolan encouraged fans to embrace "a version you can buy and own at home and put on a shelf so no evil streaming service can come steal it from you."
Is there something like #MusicBrainz, but for video? A database of #VHS, #DVD, #BluRay etc. releases with technical information like resolution, codecs, audio & subtitle languages, but also listing playtime, bonus features, and errors (e.g. "broken VFX in the scene at 12:34, fixed by subsequent re-release a year later") and so on?
Jellyfin 10.9 Coming Soon! (lemmy.ca)
