A kingfisher snatches a fish from the water in Yeadon, near Leeds, West Yorkshire, UK. The little birds are only 15cm long, but when diving they can travel at 25mph
Sitting #kingfisher - based on my mother's photos. I rather exactly "copied" its pose.
For some reason pattern on its head and wings looks like the sky for me. Not sure if it was so visible on original photos.
My local Kōtare/Kingfisher just surprised me. Flew at the window and heard it “hit” but then it went and landed on a post and had a praying mantis in its beak. And now it just flew through the top of a rose bush and came out with another bug. This is fun. Front row seat.
Working through my trip photos, trying to figure out how to develop them. May have already posted a similar photo from this series? Malachite Kingfishers do not allow themselves to be distracted by lowly humans so they make good practice subjects...
Today was a good day: In the morning, I saw a #kingfisher in the park 😱 and in the afternoon, I submitted the first manuscript for my PhD 🐦 a lot of recent days felt less successful than this one, but for now, I am at rest 🪶
