The Great Lakes are a treasure, a place of serenity and peace. Lake Michigan sunsets are wonderful to behold. In this image, the sunset is framed by a border of late summer leaves.
Michigan’s North Manitou Shoal Light station was the last manned offshore lighthouse on the Great Lakes at the time it was automated in 1980. Locals refer to it as the “Crib Lighthouse.” Photo by Sheen Watkins. #LighthouseOfMastodon #GreatLakes #LakeMichigan
“A beautiful, stoic light that guards our ships in the Manitou Passageway. She can be seen from many spots along the shoreline … even Northport. This was my first time to be up close. Those reflections …” - photographer Sheen Watkins
Went out to the lake to hunt for cool rocks. Check out this hag stone!
These green, bubbly rocks can be found all over Lake Michigan. It's not a “real” rock, actually, it's slag from a blast furnace. Once iron ore is superheated, to liquify and separate the metals, this is what's left.
They just dumped a fuck ton of this all over the lake about 150 years ago. A new type of rock to mark the automobile revolution. A very Michigan rock.
It's such a relief to witness the gradual melting of snow and the end of a long winter in Wisconsin. On one of my winter visits to the beach on Lake Michigan, I finally caught a glimpse of the Adirondack chairs. Visit my gallery for prints & more!

Sunrise on Lake Michigan in November. I was driving along the lakeshore in Milwaukee and captured this breathtaking view. 🌅✨ Prints and more are now available on my site. Check it out!
When it finally stopped Sunday evening it did make for a beautiful #LakeMichigan#sunset, so before it could go down completely I ran outside to capture it.
The fact that this made the Washington Post makes me feel better about sending my friends & family a whole bunch of videos of me & my dog braving the unreal amount of snow that fell on my house for nearly a week. Easily 3 feet!
