Good job McGill! #Legault will realize really quickly that #Québec has some very wealthy anglo donors.
McGill University is launching a $3,000 Canada Award to offset tuition increases for Canadian undergraduate students from outside Quebec in certain disciplines. Approximately 80% of new Canadian students from outside Quebec coming to McGill will be eligible for the new award.
[...] The award will be guaranteed as an offset on increased tuition for up to four years.
Some of you are aware of the ongoing TA #strike at #McGill, and it pains me to see the administration is succeeding in actively dividing undergraduates, graduate #students, and #professors alike, by pushing all three to the absolute mental limit. We - and by that I mean all three above - must NOT let the administration tear the social fabric in our #university to put money before people. When the #union says "united we bargain, divided we beg," it means not just them, but everyone. 1/
#DanielJutras also says students from the rest of #Canada aren’t making Montreal less #French, and the decision to target #Concordia and #McGill won’t help French universities much.

«The #StudentUnions of #Concordia and #McGill are coming together to denounce the #CAQ's #tuition hike because of fears that it will price-out many #Canadian students and saddle them with more #debt.
In a joint statement, student leaders from both universities wrote, "We ask that the province consider the obstacles that this will cause for access to #education and the unnecessary financial strains on those who wish to study in our universities."»
Things are getting tense in front of McGill.
I'm really impressed with the demonstrators in the encampment. This whole time they've remained consistent in their stance and have managed to de-escalate situations repeatedly. All this despite attempts to escalate by counter-protesters and the McGill administration.
After hearing arguments on the matter on Monday, #Quebec#SuperiorCourt Justice #MarcStPierre denied the request Wednesday morning. The judge suggested that the school modify its request and file it to court within the next 10 days.
Le premier ministre François Legault demande aux policiers du #SPVM de démanteler le campement propalestinien à l’Université #McGill, alors que des organisations pro-israéliennes se préparent à manifester sur les lieux jeudi. #polqc#MTL#Montreal
"[Superior Court Judge] St-Pierre appeared unconvinced by [McGill's lawyer] Darche's claim that the university's convocation plans were "urgent" when compared with the rights of the protesters to demonstrate peacefully."
Just came back from #AlAqsaPeoplesUniversity - #UQAM. Donated some needed supplies. Quite the restrictive police presence, more than last week for sure.
