If your first thought when you hear that a company that makes computers and writes curricula that trains kids how to use computers proudly hired a spy cop and gave the middle finger to those who raised ethical concerns is to defend the company and the spy cop in question, you should take a moment, stop what you’re doing, and give yourself a firm slap in the face.
It won’t change anything but it’ll make me feel better at least.
Hello all, I'm a #technologist in #NorthCarolina. I am #retired from a career in #IT but, I still do some side work from time-to-time. I have always been a huge fan of #FOSS and run several #Linux machines including my #HomeLab media server running #Unraid. I prefer my TVs dumb with a #SBC attached running #kodi.

Why is it that you can install any version of #Windows or #Linux on basically any #x86 chip, but you can't install #Android on just any#ARM phone or #sbc
Everybody always says to stick to #raspberrypi because of "support" meaning there are OS images for it
I gather that each #SoC has a unique set of modems and gpus for which a custom build of Android must be used, but Windows systems come in millions of configurations and they just load drivers on the fly
For Reasons™ I'm shopping around for Single Board Computers (#SBC). Curious to hear if anyone has any favorites Besides the #RaspberryPi. Looking to run general purpose Linux distros, primarily in headless configuration.

Woke up today and videos about #raspberrypi5 from all the big tech channels popped out from youtube news feed. Must have been living under a rock, I wasn't expecting Rpi5 until next year. I was hoping for 6 cores and full size HDMI connector, but you can't win them all. Still exited ... at least we've finally got the power button ... 😎 2 cameras is definitely a plus. And 2-2,5 performance boost (if true), faster memory and GPU, PCIe and SD is awesome.
This SBC Case Builder for OpenSCAD, and the SBC Model Library for OpenSCAD it's built atop, is really handy for prototyping cases for newly acquired SBCs, once you get used to the library's board definition format and component library... here's my first pass at adding a NAS board with Rockchip 3588 System-on-Module.
