#webhosting#fotos#videos#onlinespeicher#filesharing

Any Firefox website Wizards out there? Even though my website has a verified and valid (LetsEncrypt) SSL certificate, Firefox is reporting that "Parts of the webpage are not encrypted”.
I can't find any other information on why this is occuring, I do have a couple iframes in the page (alberniweather.ca) and lots of images including some that are hosted on Google cloud.
Question: Let's say you own 10 domain names that you're not actually using. What is the best and cheapest (<1€ per month?) way you know of to temporarily park them somewhere safe?
Ideally, I am looking for a (self-hosted?) solution with an end result similar to oldskool #tpilb
Seems I'm looking for a new web hosting company -- SiteGround blocks activitypub access from my WordPress site. After their other failures, this is likely to be the last straw.
Who do you recommend for WordPress webhosting? TIA
Immer raus damit. 😉
This is something I want to try again. Now I’m back writing in a blog I kinda think about alternatives. This solution seems really good at a few levels. What do you think @maique ? Maybe I will move back to Wordpress. I don’t feel tied to any one solution and I want away from the choices like write.as and micro.blog.
@maique I'm guessing I'll be able to import my last saved #WordPress blog into pika. Yes? 🤔
Will it let me export and keep my blog if I choose to later* move to a regular* webhost?
I didn't see the size limit per app. The pika website doesn't spell out what they mean by "minimum required resources", and what it'll cost extra later if I go beyond the limit. 😕
Hey @mastohost 👋 if I use my domain with #PikaPods, it won't affect my masto.evelynyap.com, will it?
Hi all. Hope everyone is doing well. It's about to be 3:00 AM here, and I'm about to get some sleep, but before I do, I wanted to ask for #advice from those who might know more about #technology, creating #websites, and #accessibility than I do. My mom runs a #construction#business and has a website she designed herself with drag and drop on #GoDaddy. She owns the #domain it's on and wants to move the site for a few reasons: it keeps getting hacked and she's getting a lot of spam and scam messages, customer service is poor, and GoDaddy isn't very #accessible with #ScreenReaders, so I can't help her manage her website at all. I've done some research and seen that other recommended no-code website builders are #Wix, #Squarespace, and #Weebly, but I can't find a lot of information on their accessibility. I've seen posts on #Reddit recommending hiring someone to design your website, but we don't know anyone who could do that, and our budget probably wouldn't be high enough. My mom isn't great with #tech and really needs a no-code solution. Does anyone know about the accessibility of website builders like the ones I mentioned, or can you suggest another one that might work? Thanks. #blind@mastoblind
This morning, a VPS hosting a small e-commerce site (powered by WooCommerce on Ubuntu 22.04) experienced another out-of-memory issue. A colleague (one of the developers) urgently called me, asking to upgrade the VPS due to excessive load.
I pointed out (again, as has often happened in recent weeks) that a VPS with 32GB of RAM (!!!) and 16 dedicated cores (!!!) should not run out of memory with just five simultaneous visits to a small e-commerce site. We host much larger and busier websites on much smaller VPSs. There's likely a WordPress module with a leak, or some interaction between modules causing this issue.
The response: Okay, but just add more RAM and power to solve it.
The illusion of "infinite resources" in the Cloud has led to poor development habits. Sometimes I wonder how much energy and resources we waste (and pollution we generate) due to a lack of basic optimization.
The experience of changing web host is a good reminder of why normal people just post to Medium, Facebook or some other system they have no ownership or control over. If we want people to own their web presence and content, we need better software.
I've tested way too many CMSs, static site generators and web design applications. I typically start by trying to put together a simple page with an <h1> heading, a few <p> paragraphs, and a <ul> bulleted list. It's amazing how many alleged web publishing tools fail this basic test — even ones that want a $79 licensing fee. (I'm looking at you, RapidWeaver.)
Anyway, if your web site doesn't run to many thousands of pages, my recommendation is Publii. <https://getpublii.com>. It's the only thing I've found that's at least as usable as WordPress, works with commodity hosting, and also generates good HTML, CSS and images. It's free and open source, GPL licensed. #Publii#WebHosting#WordPress#CMS#Web0
Does anyone know of a cheap way to host a static website with a lot of images? Total size is in the gigabytes.
I was thinking something CDN or S3 style, the goal here is cheap.
Many of my former #HostGator colleagues were #fired today after they tirelessly worked to consolidate the #WebHosting brand (along with other #NewfoldDigital brands) onto a single platform.
I foresaw this after a year under the new company, which was created from Web.com’s “merger” with #EnduranceInternational’s web presence division (HG, #Bluehost, etc.)
Believe them when they say you’re just keeping the lights on—it’s only a matter of time before they cut your power.
