: What is your MCs first memory?

Marissa has always loved cats and her first memory would definitely be doing something with the family cat.

Caylor’s (ghost) involves realizing quite young that he’s a disappointment to his father.

I have no idea for Dante, my werewolf.

Also, decided to reveal this WIP’s title, so here goes:

16/01:Do you have any writing rituals?

Yes? I've been answering and prompts rather religiously but my WIPs are suddenly at a place where the prompts actually interrupt my writing flow 😐 .
Thinking about whether I should or should not answer every morning isn't much better.
So that's probably it for the time being.
(Or rather, let's see how long it/I will last😁 .)

Alright, Happy New Year's, let's do some catchup!

January 1: "What are your writing plans for the coming year?"

Last year I tightened up a bunch of worldbuilding, finished an outline, and started on some visualization. This year, I aim to complete the first draft of Canonicity’s first Webnovel, The Maiden-Heretic of Laclathan! That’s the WIP I’ve been using for WritingWonders, the one with two chapters soon to have company: https://canonicity.org/works/TMHOL

150—What inspired the idea for your WiP

Since we are talking R.S., it has to be what inspired the character.

My WiP is as mechanically constructed as you can get. I realized my character had a half-year where nothing happened between stories, and that got me thinking.

The difficulty here it that because it would be both a sequel and a prequel, I needed the story to have a reason never be reported while still being knock your socks off. Something that could still be shoehorned into later stories with a phrase like "Oops, that's a state secret. Don't repeat that," and not cause a disruption.

(I actually did. You know. Shoehorn that line into a later story, before completing this WiP.)

So what ideas did I throw at the wall?

An invasion of Earth nobody knew about (which comes from five chapters I never continued). My devil-girl had to had to stop it. I wanted to make it useful for ongoing stories by getting the devil-girl back on the main antagonist' radar by my devil-girl inadvertently doing the MA an enormous solid (i.e., saving Her ass).

Check. Check Check.

Didn't quite take off. My devil-girl wasn't biting. What was the story idea missing?

Ah!

/A sexy dragon./

Anything more would be spoilers.

@johnb48 it is still a work in progress, though I expect to start writing it again later this month. In the meantime, I answered a prompt from the sexy dragon's point of view back in June. Feel free to read it and tell me what you think.

R.S. (@sfwrtr) — Nov 17, 2023

1 year ago, at the urging of an online friend and with a great deal of assistance, I joined Mastodon. It has been a journey of discovery, and plenty more, where I've met a great number of diverse authors and learned /so much/ about the craft and the experience of writing that my mind wants to explode. Along the way, I've met numerous artists—who I'm following as perspective cover artists, as well as for genuine inspiration—photographers, pundits, and other creatives. Every day has been fun. I've enjoyed answering your questions from my experience as a writer. As a shy introvert, who's somewhat , you've gifted me the opportunity to experience community very unlike my experience as an author, pre-Internet. I might not have burnt out and had to rediscover writing had I had you'all around.

So...

Thank you! ❤️

And to the 499 followers I've garnered, here's a special warm thanks: 💫 I don't award a gold star to just anyone! I hope I've entertained and inspired you along the way.

Any one want to be my 500th follower?

EDIT: @gryphonEschmidt got the honor, but you can still follow. 750 is the next target. 😇

I always wanted to create a podcast/talk show format where writers don't discuss existing works just by their plot but more the craft and technique in depth and not just bits and pieces here and there as usually in most formats.
Would some of you folks be up for that?

01/10. Introduce your MC from the perspective of the antagonist.

AI:"Commander Kira Joan Knox, age 35 Earth/Terran Standart Years, 178 cm, 95 KG in 1GAP, currently inactive, released from Duty on Uniondate 335.9-01/10-3202. This file is redacted and manipulated. I am sure she commands one of the Alliances Navy Special Test/Prototypes like N.64-3.V.4_Unit-O1. I know about her. Our path crossed several times before, she will join our mission soon enough again."

27.10.2023 Do you ever mention writing or reading in your stories?

I haven't so far still books exist in a way in my SciFi Story. I mentioned prior that I plan a parody with all the thrown out ideas for what I write/wrote about in wordweavers, writingwonders and pennedpossibilities, this will be a minor story element for the history of one of my MCs and known as a extremely trashy take on exploring space.
Also if your a AO3 author... 😬

Ch 1 — Do you practice "kill your darlings" in your work?

Had to look this up, and I misunderstood it. Do I ever excise a superfluous subplot from the main story line, even when I like it a lot? I've done that, rarely. My story composition is generally lean, despite my being rather loquacious. Words, lots and lots of words, usually get cut in revision, not plot lines. I usually understand when I'm going off on a tangent. My "darlings" often become side stories, though.

85 — MC POV: Tell us a quick love story. The story must end badly. CW: Um, frank talk?

I thought he was dead. The only guy who'd ever had a crush on me. My lieutenant from my days in the mob. He'd been bleeding when I'd shoved him through the /Interstellar/ apparition a year ago. When I'd escaped through the same working ten minutes later, the street it was anchored to in Home City was abandoned—but for Praetorian guards too frantic to notice me because Director Rainy Days had roared through only half a minute before, in full battle mode, without any of her guards.

A year later, Rainy Days cornered me. To convince me to stay, she'd baited her trap with him. She'd made him a cadet in her Praetorian guard, and oh my—my—my, did he look good in that uniform. He stepped up to me, no longer blushing or stuttering, not able to say those words that he liked me. No, he stepped up to be, cupped my chin, and kissed me deeply.

My knees nearly gave out, despite my worst enemy standing less than a dozen standards away from me. My heart racing, I returned the kiss, warming up, and letting him put a hand behind my back.

Rainy Days said something like, "She should get a room."

I stepped back, a hand on my lieutenant's chest. I looked at her in complete shock, but I couldn't think of anything sufficiently sarcastic. I flashed her a hand-gesture instead, then grabbed his head and kissed him back until he moaned. I expected that evening would be sweet.

He fought alongside me against Rainy Days, the strongest thaumaturge to ever live. We nearly died.

That night, after lots of events too numerous to enumerate, and me agreeing to work with Rainy Days as her minion (long story), I had to deal with my roommate. She was the first person I'd acknowledged as a friend since childhood. I had used her in a sting operation to catch a crime boss and for various reasons—including that she had never ever gotten laid because of who her mom is—was bummed out.

I "gave" her my boyfriend to cheer her up.

They took me literally. Loudly, I might add. You'd think an ivory tower would have better sound insulation, but you'd be wrong. I left as soon as I could the morning after as they were still at it.
