If the whole Windows Recall thing scares you and you are looking for options: For many people Linux just does the trick. If you need a browser, some office stuff, maybe a bit of image/media management, Linux absolutely got you covered. It probably will be annoying or something might be broken but that is the same with every operating system.

But before you install something, maybe have a chat with someone who knows a bit more about it to help you navigate the choices and to ensure that your workload is actually supported on Linux.

But it's no longer an OS just for experts. You can do almost anything graphically and a lot of shit just works.

I haven't used on the for a decade or so. Still using it as a server OS on my Raspberry Pi but not on the desktop since I use MacBooks (for work).

But I'm seriously thinking about replacing Windows 11 with Linux on my desktop PC.

I know that there are a million opinions but what Linux distribution can you people recommend? I think I prefer a rolling release distro and where I don't have to do too much "low-level" configuration. Maybe ?

Dear lazyweb: is anyone using credit monitoring programs from various credit bureaus in the US? Are they worth it?

Friends. I’m going to migrate my videos from one PeerTube instance to another. I’d love any advice or tips from folks who have experienced this already. Boosts help even if you don’t have advice (that way others may find this, too). Thanks in advance.

Wondering if anyone's interested in for older systems like and ? I really liked the distribution based on and -x with FreeDOS. I know the lead developer of XFDOS is no longer active, but it would be nice to see some development continue on this project. Is anyone else besides me interested in this sort of thing?

There’s an Italian(?) animated short involving mosquitoes living off a sleeping human, as an allegory for modern dependence on oil.

I don’t remember the name. Anyone?

Is there a good place to find presets ?? I'm trying to learn how to use that as light-room just isn't worth the monthly fees, and while I like Raw Threapee it's kind of clunky to use

I got a DM about how to host a Website as anonymous as possible, especially viewed from the outside with as little attack surface as possible. I already threw a bunch of my ideas in the room, but maybe you can think of something I haven't thought of...
Please just answer to this post if something crosses your mind from security over hoster to the website itself, I will link it to the person.

A friend of mine has a dumb TV that she wishes to use to watch various "internet" based services like BritBox, YouTube, and Netflix. I suspect that an Android based "media player" box is the easiest way (without buying a television) for me to make that happen. She does not want to hook up a laptop to the TV and use it to play media.

Is there a better option than an Android box? And if not, what do I need to know about buying one of the many available boxes? One of my concerns is that at some point the lack of updates will force her to buy a new box. Is that a likely thing?

Having established that dandelion seed heads are definitely NOT known as DANDELION CLOCKS by everyone I have a follow on question...

What DO you know them as?

Chatting to people already I have had FLUFFS (Lithuania) and WINDY PUFFS (Canada) both of which are SUPERB.

Are there any others? Will there be enough to make a World Map of Dandelion Names?! 😃

Places, names & any other trivia welcome!
