Nine years ago I left the office and there was a barn #owl screeching its head off. It poked its head out from behind a tree and stared straight at me as I took a photo on my phone.
Inspired by photos my friends took during Warsaw trip. There was a man with a barn #owl as tourist attraction (personally I wasn't there). Photo that mostly inspired me has an owl in body pose similar to this.
A student can't afford to pay the $8 per month for #Obsidian sync, so builds a #FOSS alternative. Then posts to HN and says "I probably violate ToS, so will take down the repo if asked".
Then the Obsidian CEO replies. Explains they aren't VC-funded and the $8 bucks subscription keeps the light on. Applauds the work of the student, points to other open ways that content sync can be handled and gives advice "if you rename, there's no ToS problem". 👍
#Tardnap as another example:
They do release their source code (only source-available, not open source!) to both fulfill Kerckhoff's principle, allow people to audit said code independently as well as port it to their OS of choice. https://www.tarsnap.com/open-source.html
Personally I prefer solutions like #Zulip that come with a good #API amd thus allow 3rd party clients like #Barnowl to support easily.
On Thursday night at 22:30, I could hear bird chirp noises coming from the other side of the wall in the en-suite bathroom. I went outside to have a look in the wood store.
At first I couldn't see anything so I used the torch on my phone, still nothing. Then two barn owls flew out, they went right past me. One perched in another spot where i could see it, then flew off.
