This incredible photo of two yellow-headed #caracara [#Milvago chimachima (Vieillot, 1816)] was taken by José Iván Cano in Hato Corozal, Casanare, #Colombia, and shared via Negrita Films SAS (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0)
Hey all, after some personal issues including the loss of a friend and serious illness of 2 others, I have decided to start sharing now and then. I started posting on a regional page and it has re-kindled my interest.
Here are a couple of local bald eagles. Enjoy your weekend:) #birdsofmastodon#baldeagle#birdofprey#raptors#birdphotography#naturephotography
Preeeeetty sure it was a peregrine I saw buzzing around and riling nesting birds. Small raptor, mostly white with a bit of brown on the underside. Came within 20 feet overhead. Gorgeous.
This is a red-tailed hawk (Buteo jamaicensis) who flew high over my yard several months ago. The hawk seems to be screeching while it flies.
"The Red-tailed Hawk has a thrilling, raspy scream that sounds exactly like a raptor should sound. At least, that’s what Hollywood directors seem to think. Whenever a hawk or eagle appears onscreen, no matter what species, the shrill cry on the soundtrack is almost always a Red-tailed Hawk." - allaboutbirds.org
I caught this sharp shinned hawk (Accipiter striatus) grooming itself. I looked up as if to say, "yes can I help you?"
"Sharp-shinned Hawks carry their prey to a stump or low branch to pluck it before eating. Swallowing feathers is not normal for them, as it is for owls." - allaboutbirds.org
You know, the photographs that I post here are not quite a vivid as the same photographs that I post at my pixel's gallery, because here, I reduce the size of the photos and usually make a slight reduction in the quality of the photos to make them easier to load.
All was quiet on the Billy Neill Playing Fields… until it wasn’t!
A #sparrowhawk flushed from the trees by an irate #HoodedCrow and was chased across the pitches.
Needless to say, that was the end of #birdwatching for the morning 🤷♂️
We've got a new visitor around the house. At first I thought it's a hawk, but I guess it's a sparrowhawk. And those are hunting small birds instead of mice. 😩
Sitting in the snackbar - This beautiful Sparrowhawk was sitting in our garden at about 50cm (20 inch) from the bird feeding station as if he was in a snackbar. The feeding tray was of course totally abandoned by all the little birds
