In a makeshift rehearsal hall in #Yiyang, #Hunan, actors in elaborate costumes of #Huaguxi (flower drum #opera) are producing a #livestream. Since their 1st post on short-vid platform #Douyin in Feb 2022, they've attracted 100,000 followers & 647,000 thumbs-up.
Huaguxi is one of Hunan's #TraditionalArtForms and the troupe have built up an increasing online following with their #classical repertoire, which is based on the #TraditionalTales of filial piety & loyalty.
Trying something new here. As a self-taught pianist it's hard to get good feedback and tips. I had considered posting my practices, but who really wants to watch other people do scale and chord inversion exercises. Instead I thought I would start posting repertoire run throughs where either I'm getting close and want feedback or am struggling to see if any one has any tips.
If nothing else, I thought it would be a nice way to monitor progress to make sure I'm progressing in my practice sessions.
Today, I was working on Satie's - Gymnopédie No. 1 which I’m getting very close on note wise, though I forgot my place in the first half. Still struggling with dynamics especially starting off and keeping a flowing but steady rhythm. Any tips or suggestions?

Miss Admiral Gordon’s Strathspey (William Marshall ) is a 250 yr. old strathspey dance tune. Named for the Strathspey region of Scotland, the strathspey dance is a popular form of country dance, usually in 4/4 time and slower than a reel or jig. It is characterized by the use of the “Scots Snap" rhythm — a sixteenth note followed by a dotted eighth note, or in reverse order.
This #BandcampFriday, I finally remembered to do the checkout of a massive #Bandcamp cart that had been piling up over several months. Listening through things now, dropping some recommendations along the way: 👇
The repetitiveness/variations of the same theme is a great peek into an aspect of composing that we don't often think about: The music we love and listen to every day might have ended up being (very) different. It just happened to be what it is, although several outcomes were possible when the artist set out on the creative journey.

#PhilipGlass is 87 today, so I'm listening to Einstein on the Beach. Easily my favourite #opera. It's like listening to the thoughts of a sentient computer (which, in a way, I suppose Einstein was).
Music already is, and always has been, a neural implant; I don't need a clunky, misfiring Musk rust-bucket in my head. #classical#minimalism
