“... #Signal can’t interoperate with another messaging platform, without them raising their #privacy bar significantly... Because we don’t just encrypt the #contents of messages... We encrypt #metadata, ... your profile #name, your profile #photo, who’s in your #contact list, #who you talk to, #when you talk to them. That would need to be the level of privacy and security agreed across the board... before we could consent to interoperate.”
I need your help #bookstodon. One of the classes I'm taking at the graduate level this semester is Religion & Science Fiction. I read more fantasy, and would like to do my research paper on something that's not obvious (like ST/BS5/Matrix/etc.) & I'd love to use more modern sf rather than the golden age classics.
Anyone have any interesting ideas for my research paper on regarding the intersection of religion and science fiction?
“The repeated stylizations of the body—everyday acts and gestures—are themselves performatives, producing the gendered identity of which they are thought to be the expressions.”(Alberti, 2013, p. 95)
Update: The Drake Equation I didn't know! ---
Original Post: Whoa. How did I not know of the similarity until today -- as I continue watching Star Trek TOS for rhe first time in full -- of a line in S1E15 that is similar to the recurring theme that Ellie (Jodie Foster) speaks to in Contact (based on Carl Sagan's book) remembering what her dad told her.
Particularly this exchange:
Ellie: You know, there are four hundred billion stars out there, just in our galaxy alone.
If only one out of a million of those had planets, and just of out of a million of those had life, and just one out of a million of those had intelligent life; there would be, literally... millions of civilizations out there."
Palmer Joss : [looking at the night sky] Well, if there wasn't, it'd be an awful waste of space.
And now Doctor McCoy, to Kirk in the first episode featuring the Romulans and a possibility of war.
McCoy:
"Something I seldom say to a customer, Jim
In this Galaxy, there's a mathematical probability of three million Earth-type planets.
And in all of the Universe 3 million million galaxies like this.
And in all of that, perhaps more, only one of each of us.
Don't destroy the one named Kirk."
Did Carl Sagan, or the writers of the movie, include this as a nod to Star Trek? Reversed in a way...
So earlier this evening, my partner got a notification that a #package had been delivered to our #CanadaPost#community#mailbox -- i.e. in a separate delivery from the usual mail during the day.
I went out to check, and indeed they had left the #key for package compartment "2B" in our box.
With the key snapped off right at the base of the big plastic "gas station bathroom key attached to a cinderblock" fob...
I knew he didn't have it because the online tracking showed a "delivery attempted" at 7:50am, and this was hours later.
I figured out what he was doing - at the start of his #shift, he'd mark every package on his route as "delivery attempted" and fill out all the door cards, and he then dropped the packages off at the Shoppers Drug Mart before even #starting his #route!
I'd complained about his #antics enough times that a #postal inspector/supervisor had given me #contact info.

I've decided join in this hashtag. Thanks to @val for tagging me ❤️
The idea is "share one image (no posters, no titles, no explanation) from 10 films that impacted me. Every day a new person will be added: 10 days, 10 movie images, 10 friends."
I'm going to try to do 10 films, but probably won't post something every day.
These aren't favorite films, just films that somehow impacted me.
This image is from the first movie I saw with my husband when we dating.
