#Inflation soared under President #Biden in 2021 & 2022, as the #economy emerged from the #pandemic recession [that began under Trump]. Its causes were complex, including snarled #SupplyChains, stimulative policies by the #FederalReserve &, to a degree, federal fiscal policies incl’ing #Covid relief bills signed by #Trump &…Biden.

What call “Bidenflation” has become one of the president’s biggest liabilities in his rematch w/ . In response, has sought to simultaneously cheer in or bringing down has slowed sharply from a yr ago — while acknowledging the pain still feel in their pocketbooks.

Biden has also attacked for pricing practices in certain sectors such as meatpacking, snack foods, concert tickets & gasoline.

I love that a multi-billion-dollar corporation like RedHat/IBM can ship an operating system with a broken screen reader in 2024 (it’s not just them, it’s true for basically every major Linux distribution today) and, when you point it out, the response is “it’s no one’s fault… it’s all free labour… it’s FOSS, man”. And then: oh, and this charity is paying for one person to work on accessibility support to be implemented now… Anyone else see how fucked up that is?

Why should it take @sovtechfund to fund accessibility work on the Linux distribution of a multi-billion-dollar corporation like IBM? Why the fuck isn’t IBM paying for it?

"What are we to make of the fact that Trump can be re-elected, that the Supreme Court is full of reactionary fanatics, and Congress isn't acting on the will of the American people? For starters, we have a political system that acts like a dam, blocking the 'main stream' of where this country is today. …

But this system is also a product of our past."

From the ar(t)chive…

Voxel-style 3D illustration for a 2005 issue of a Dutch magazine, about the attraction of working for large corporations.

There were no voxel editors yet in 2005, and I guess Shell was still a relatively attractive employer. 😏

A madman on top of state hierarchy could kill 100 000 of innocents and get away with it, while you may have a prison sentence because of a comment in the web. Governments allow people with money to set up corporations, in order to accomplish things the public want done. Why ELSE would a democracy do this?

(Executives of) Corporations treat rules & regulations that protect the public as an annoyance. They look for ways around those rules.

One of the ways around those rules & regulations is paying politicians to change or ignore the rules, resulting in harm to the public.

The US doesn't ban this. The UK doesn't ban this.
