So if I got that right, #Threads wants you to sing up to get API access to their walled garden using your (a?) google account?
So I guess there will be API-keys involved?
We wrote a guide to help #Threads users better understand what the #Fediverse is, and how it works.
A lot of people over there are enthusiastic about Fedi, but need to have things explained in a way that makes sense to newcomers. This is part of our public education campaign to help people find their bearings.
Best I can tell there are five #Threads accounts worth following: Joe Biden, White House, John Green, Hank Green, and Roman Mars. So far I’ve managed to follow all of them except for Hank Green and Roman Mars

ANNOUNCEMENT: The world’s first general purpose #Akkomane server is here!
With great excitement, akkomane.social is open for registrations!
Akkomane is an alternative to #Mastodon and #Threads that provides incredible stability with a beautiful and futuristic Twitter-like front-end for the #Fediverse.
I have launched akkomane.social to demonstrate this software’s unique capabilities.
Currently, I’m capping memberships to 20 people (not bots). While membership preference is given to those who’d like to build and maintain an Akkomane server, everyone is welcome to apply! More membership slots will be available in the coming weeks.
So, I am gonna start posting links to my Mastodon posts on Threads. Maybe I can convert some folks to a federated group that way, or at least encourage them to concider it.
Eh, I did give it a try, but ultimately blocked #Threads.
Honestly, far less for its user-base - I can’t say I’ve seen much of the common folk out here, if there still is such a thing.
The reporters, the pundits, the media hacks.
All those shitnuggets that stayed with corpo SM, while at the same time deriding the platforms and their ownership. Oh, too much of a hit to be a part of the core Fedi community, but still okay to fire-hose it.
I’m seeing a lot of people badmouthing Facebook/Meta and saying we shouldn’t federate with Threads.
Mastodon.social is owned by Mastodon gGmbH and run by the author of Mastodon. Mastodon.social federates with Threads. If Facebook/Meta were toxic, do you think they would? Of course, not.
Facebook/Meta has Mastodon’s author’s (& the original Mastodon server’s) seal of approval. So you should all shush because clearly you’re mistaken.
PSA: Since Threads apparently will be federating replies soon, I thought I should post this again, because there's still a lot of people that don't know.
When a normal user uses "block this domain" it's LITERALLY just a MUTE. The blocked server can still see, interact, and reply to your posts, you just won't be able to see them.
It's kinda like sitting in a room with hungry bears while wearing a blindfold. If you're scared of hungry bears, your best bet is to get out of the room, not put a blindfold on. And by this, I simply mean to migrate to an instance where the blocks are up to your standard on the "instance" level.
Stay informed and make informed decisions, no matter what you choose to do with your Fediverse presence.
