Because it's the first "Universal Game Engine" released under the free #ORC license, the new #BasicRoleplaying is poised to become the #Linux / open source software of the #TTRPG world. You can do almost whatever you like with the text of the book, including copy it, subject to the license.
I love #GURPS too, but it's not free & open the way #BRP is - yet.
@rwhe@ttrpg My point was that there are already “open source” universal #ttrpgs out there. #BRP is not breaking any new ground by doing this except by going first with #ORC. It’s great they’re doing this, as I have many fond memories of BRP games. It’s certainly novel for @Chaosium - who’ve historically been much more protective over their products and IP - to embrace open licensing. I applaud that.
I don't know all versions of D&D. There's a gap between AD&D 1e & a bit of 2e and 5e. So I don't know if this is re-inventing the wheel or my own unique idea.
What if ancient dragons had a special ability/spell called "Animate Hoard"?
This would cause coins to form a temporary "coin golem" for example. Furniture, chests, carpets & tapestries would all animate as per animate object & for the duration attack the party in defense of the dragon(s), its young, or a final screw you a party. #TTRPGs

My name is Mark and I’m another migrator from the bird site finding my way here. I have many interests - I work in IT so I keep up with all things #tech and #gadgets. I enjoy #TTRPGs (but through circumstance mainly of the solo variety) and #miniaturepainting so expect to see posts of my attempts in this arena. I also like #rugby but sports Mastodon is a bit lacking in that respect so far!
Here's my #introduction! I'm a queer, non-binary #indigenous writer and cartoonist from Canada. My webcomic (weregeek.com) was all about my love of #ttrpgs and LARPs, and I've done writing for several ttrpg systems.
I also write comic scripts, screenplays and short stories, and am the editor on several comics anthologies.
