I vaguely remember this episode, though it was before I really became consciously aware of my own gender.
There was also an episode of All in the Family where Archie, as a cab driver, does mouth to mouth resuscitation on a woman and saves her life, only to find out later that she was trans. He is icked out, of course, but if I recall correctly he came to accept her after she visited his home and talked with him.
Hey friends, does anyone know what either of these objects are?
(They were found in a deceased relative's jewelry box.)
Please boost for added eyes, thanks! 😊
The lettering on the object on the left says:
Hadley Made in USA
Both ends open up to 90⁰ and the main body expands and contracts about a centimetre.
A clever person has said that the object in the right is a Writescope telescoping mechanical pencil. Thanks!
Here's the next step in the Republican plan to make it illegal to be transgender. Texas Governor Greg Abbot wants to ban transgender people from being teachers. What profession will he want to ban us from next? When will he want to ban us from appearing in public places?
I've been getting my house cleaned up and tommorrow I'm calling a realtor so I can sell my house and get out of this repressive state.
Considering that there were attempts last year to ban drag shows and to pass a don't say gay law, yes, I'd say this is part of an overall strategy of attacking lgbt people. It just so happens that transgender people are the primary focus.
Had a long ass chat with my gramma last nite. She said ' Jaden you will never find happiness because all you do is plan for the next thing, always looking for something new and better. Just sit back and enjoy what you got'.
Think she may have a point??????
What yall think 🤔
I think she is partly right. Your happiness should be based on what you have and what you are now. Appreciate the present and be aware of it.
But at the same time, plan for the future. Knowing what you want for the future can guide your actions today. And if those plans don't work out, don't be sad. Count what the experience has taught you and celebrate that, and then move on.
In my life I know where I am, but I also know where I want to be and that informs me as a journey on.
"49% of adults in Canada have below high-school literacy levels, and 17% are unable to follow written instructions or read maps."
"Half adults in the U.S. struggle to read a book written for eighth-graders."
If your first instinct is 'why are people ‘dumb’?’ you are elitist and not inclusive. There are plenty of immigrants and others. As web professionals it should be your job to include everyone
I would say that if your first instinct is to ask "why can't people read" then you are inquisitive and trying to understand the problem in order to find the best way to address it, and yes, using a writing style that is broadly understood is part of addressing the issue.
Nah, I don't care if someone follows me. I don't really make a point of putting out interesting content, I just post whatever catches my interest. If someone doesn't share my interests but still has good things to say, then I'm happy following them even if they don't know I exist.
I’m in the middle of listening to a call-in radio show from the mid-1960s. (I can’t yet reveal more specifics.)
Let me reassure anyone who worries about today’s state of discourse that interpersonal attacks, topic-hijacking, and political and personality partisanship are not new phenomena.
At least the host and guest are doing an admirable job eventually steering the discussion back into focus. It’s hard for me to sit through, though.
I don't think the extremes of public discourse have changed that much over the years, but rather that the Internet (and talk radio in the 90's before that) gave the crankpots much broader reach than they'd ever had before so that now their voices are heard by millions and tens of millions of people rather than just their fellow crankpots.

"Hundreds of riders trying to flee a recent subway shooting were forced to exit one at a time, the emergency door locked — an effort to deter against fare evasion.
Critics of measures taken to deter fare evasion warned of a scenario exactly like this."
As the network is decentralized, counting these numbers will always be inaccurate and other counting methods yield different results, but this is still something to celebrate.
As of 13:12 (GMT+1) on the 18th of March 2024, Mastodon now has 15 million user accounts.
I believe in the ability of this network to steadily grow, but never explode in size to subsequently burst like a bubble. I believe in this approach of social networking and that it is the more human-oriented, non-commercial approach we need in order to fix our societal, personal, and political divide.
We are here because we disagree with our data being harvested in order for our “free” communication platforms to be maintained. We disagree with locking users into an ecosystem and removing our ability to choose which platform to call ours.
We are here because we disagree with profit-driven social networks entirely.
I'd like to take this opportunity to encourage everyone to make a donation to your Mastodon server operator, not matter how small. Running servers is not free and it can be very time consuming. The people providing this great service for us deserve our support as well as our gratitude.
JK Rowling is moving into Holocaust denial now, and also saying that doctors providing gender affirming care, and transgender advocates should be jailed.
Enough is enough. Time to cancel this piece of shit permanently. Refuse to support her in any way financially. Don't buy anything associated with her. Keep your Harry Pottter books if you already have them, but refuse to give her any more money. Let her rot.
