Results are out for the guaranteed basic income pilot in Paterson, New Jersey where 110 people got $400/mo for a year.

Pilot participants increased their incomes significantly to $24,810 from an average of $16,604. The control group ended up at $19k.

While the control group's ability to cover a $400 emergency sharply declined, basic income recipients not only maintained their ability, but over 15% saved more than $500.

Mental health improved. Distress levels went down

Big news in bug math. This is the first year since 1803 when both 13-year cicadas and 17-year cicadas will emerge from the ground simultaneously in the US!

13 and 17 are both prime. It's believed cicadas evolved to have prime-number life cycles, thus avoiding predators that emerge more frequently, like once every 4 years or 5 years or... whatever. By showing up infrequently, with a prime number life cycle, cicadas can starve out those predators.

And since 13 and 17 are both prime and 13 × 17 = 221, both kinds of cicadas emerge simultaneously only once every 221 years. And

1803 + 221 = 2024

so now they'll both emerge simultaneously and we'll have 𝑙𝑜𝑡𝑠 of cicadas!

Also, this year the two kinds can interbreed! Maybe they're be fruitful and multiply... and we'll get 221-year cicadas. 😆

I've been up for an hour, have feed both Ginza and me our respective breakfasts.

I haven't looked outside any yet into the dark. Supposed to be wet or maybe snowing outside, and after that today's weather will be one of strong cold wind.

I hope to go to the market for errands around noon or early afternoon.

Feels like I will have a better brain today which will be nice to have after 3 days of brain cabbage.

Joulupukki is a Finnish Christmas figure whose name translates as Yule or Christmas Goat. Pukki comes from the Teutonic root "bock", which is a cognate of the English "buck", and means "billy-goat". I've been awake already almost 2 hours. I've fed Ginza and me our respective breakfasts. She's snoozing on the bed as I type this.

It should be a good weather day if Ginza wants to go outside. She's all recovered from the aftereffects of the vax shots back on Saturday.

Looking at weather forecast into next week, looks like the first sustained cold air of winter will finally arrive and there might be snow along with that.
