"A vote for Trump is a vote for more gun violence. It got lost in the coverage, but Trump promised the NRA that he would repeal all of Biden's gun safety actions. …
Trump promised, 'In my second term, we will roll back every Biden attack on the Second Amendment.'
@RememberUsAlways Indeed. I want to get better at thinking ahead.
I recently read that historical inflection points aren't dependent on a person, but are stochastic inevitabilities. If that's so, an environment can be cultivated to facilitate desirable outcomes, which provides resiliency against these worrisome "tides" sweeping this way and that. Just as the debt of tfg's chaotic hypocrisy is inescapable, the fruits of virtuous action are always at hand.
“When a #police department upgrades its #guns, what happens to the old ones? A CBS #News investigation found #law enforcement agencies routinely resold or traded in their used duty #weapons, a practice that has sent thousands of guns into the hands of criminals.
In a 16-year period ending in 2022, the ATF identified more than 52,000 guns recovered from #crime scenes that were once used by police agencies. It took a federal court order for the ATF to release that data”
Woman pleads guilty to conspiring with neo-Nazi leader to attack energy grid
A Maryland woman admitted to scheming with a neo-Nazi leader from Florida to destroy electrical substations surrounding Baltimore in an attack that she told a confidential FBI source would be “legendary” and “probably permanently completely lay this city to waste.”
John Pavlovitz rightly compares the (selective) outrage many Republicans are now expressing at Kristi Noem's braggadocious story about shooting a dog and a goat with the meh, thoughts-and-prayers response of these same folks to yet another school shooting.
"The cognitive dissonance required to rightly rail against the assassination of a puppy, while simultaneously ignoring or explaining away the nearly daily mass shootings of mothers, spouses, brothers, children, and best friends here is a sick marvel to behold."
@GottaLaff I feel like this bill is a half measure. Don't just arm the teachers, arm the students, too! And the guidance counselors, obviously. And the janitors. Heck, arm the crossing guards while you're at it. And not just handguns, either; to keep our schools safe, we need fully automatic weapons in every classroom. And school principals should have access to rocket-propelled grenades. You know, for the kids.
@GottaLaff
Yes, our GOP supermajority controlled legislature in Tennessee is super awful, but I want to point out that with the help of a few great journalists and a lot of grassroots activists that we were just able to stop their attempted theft of public school money with the latest DeVos private school voucher scheme here.
Just wanted to post some hopeful news to go along with this sad news about the gun industry winning another round.
"I believe that to minimize mass shootings, we must move the question of the gender of the shooter from the periphery to the center of a long overdue national conversation."
"Change how we talk about the issue. That means refusing to speak out against generic 'gun violence.' Until we’re willing to say, men’s gun violence, we’ll continue to miss the mark, falling short of any campaign to prevent mass shootings."
